What is a realistic Soil Organic Matter (SOM) level for permanent intensive grassland, medium to heavy loam.
Had some soil samples done a couple of years ago , taken by Environmental Services of local college, analyzed by NMR , the SOM levels (by LOI) range from 9.0 to12.3 % averaging around 10.0% over 10 fields.
Are these in the normal range for intensive dairy land? They seem almost ridiculously high to me, we have no peat or heath land.
If they are correct the CO2 stored is massive, especially compared to Vegan , sorry, arable land.
