One of the many reasons for being a little late this month is the internal debate we had about whether it was a spade or shovel on the front cover of this issue. I'm still not sure we got it correct.

Spade for sure. I don't see any upturned edges. Can't believe it got past the editor.

It was spade headline originally - Mike thinks its a shovel ....... I'm on the fence, my spade is a bit of a hybrid with turned up edges but is narrow like a spade ! (its not my spade / shovel in that pic though )

Hard to tell if they’re upturned edges or just rounded corners.

Wouldn’t it have been easier to retake the picture rather than argue about it?

I voted spade but I agree it is very difficult to tell from the picture to the point that I'm not sure.
But I would question anybodies advice that digs a hole with a shovel and not a proper digging spade so I would question the reliability of the information in the article to the point the editor should have called it a spade just to seem competent.
