About 1/2 inch last night. Strong winds today will have taken care of that though....

Looking good 7610, while the drought is certainly affecting spring crops its no 2018 hopefully more 1984 when medicore looking crops produced barnbusting yields
Should be a 25 quid a bale straw year too as an added bonus . We had about an inch of rain last night which should help crops no end but todays " dry " hurricane like wind is doing its best to claim the moisture back .

Think it depends a bit, where u are. We have had 40mm in March/April/May which is less than half we got in 18. Stuff still ok at mo though but this wind isn’t helping

Yup. The line between crop and cover crop is a fairly fine one. And a bobbins late August will turn a 4t/ha barley crop into a 2. And the rest will be volunteers for three years. May be some value in mowing and baling it a month before.

1984 followed a very dry autumn and winter of 83

a distinctly average crop is on the cards

Distinctly to be much less than average, here, unfortunately.

A very useful and handy old adage is - don't panic, but if you do panic, panic first.

We have therefore just taken advantage of current low IRs and almost zero fees to agree a facility which will allow us to survive two consecutive years at zero yield.

Lot of money made from spuds in 1983 / 84. For those that had irrigation, anyway.
We were growing strawberries at the time, pumping water from wells to try and keep the plants alive.
Character building.
