well noticed it got lime last year though will need to recheck it!Was the weeds in tramline that had me wondering. They look like Corn Spurry which is an indicator of low pH
Conclusion from a walk round my spring crops is they are s**t . Spring barley looks good from the road but when in about it, it is thin and short . Feck all straw this year I think .
I like your thinkingOn the plus side, a quick harvest then back to the pub!
did you not put any fert down the spout? This is my worst stuff . Concerto drilled at 225kg/h on 21st April. Got 10.26.26 at 288kg/h on 29th April. Balance amidas urea on 14th May. Still seeing residues on top and looking very hungry as we keep missing any decent rains .
Some neighbours got fert on ahead of last decent rain and look much better while others with similar looking crops to mine . View attachment 682456View attachment 682458
same here did you get uch rain the other nite? i got 10mm but the wind has soon dried it upConclusion from a walk round my spring crops is they are s**t . Spring barley looks good from the road but when in about it, it is thin and short . Feck all straw this year I think .

Haven't done it for years. We had split a field into 3 about 20 years ago. 1/3 down spout , 1/3 broadcast after drill and 1/3 in front on plough furr then mixed in during sowing . All fert had been applied on the same day as sowing and there was hardly any difference other than bushy looking rows in broadcast on plough furr stuff at same angle as plough had worked.did you not put any fert down the spout?
I put the boot in for scale -I’ll take a tape measure next time! Its the welly boots that crack me up atm. this is a dry weather/lack of rain thread
was it a dry spring when you did your experiment though? we often get a dry may so thats why we started putting it down the spout made a difference in a dry yearHaven't done it for years. We have just broadcast after the drill since . Now with reduced labour tho so the truth is fertiliser isn't going on quick enough anymore , so something that maybe needs looked into again
Pretty much not, will be dusk for hour or so, still bright daylight just now and will be for an hour or 2 yet.Does the sun ever set on that barley in June?
Had about 2-3 mm tops .same here did you get uch rain the other nite? i got 10mm but the wind has soon dried it up
