Had a chance for a walkabout in the spring crops this afternoon.
They went in well into good moist seedbed, but the rain over the last week or so has really perked them up.

Spring Oats filling out, they got a post emergence rolling to encourage a bit of tillers, it seems to have worked.

We tend to aim for about 50 plants/m2, I think we are about there as a field average.
We are also in a Hls/Els scheme, so margina and hedges are also a crop for us. These were bursting with life.

I could hear at least 3 different bird songs, no idea what they were!
A very pleasant and pleasing hours walk.
Came past your place yesterday in sprayer so had a good view (!) , crops and farm look good. OSR has good potential.
I know it's not yours but WW opposite side of A 358 , Williton side of layby is not going to need many trailers !!

Ty. Ive really enjoyed growing gleam for several years now, but I think I need to be looking for its replacement in a year or two.
It does look good here, it looks much less scruffy than the Saki, I have a bit of Bairstow and some champion coming to try see if they will Replace gleam and Saki

been round the winter barleys a couple of hours ago, they all look well with above average number of ears with a healthy number of grains/ear just about full clear of disease and almost starting to ripen which means we had better get a move on with cleaning down etc as in with a chance of cutting end of july which would be a week/10 days early for us, but will probably rain for a fortnight with no sun and be flat to the floor and growing through by late august . ( been a hard day)

Might be wrong on brome to be honest. It’s a residual .
I fear brome will be out next problem with lack of chemistry as Broadway is hit and miss. However we are one of 3 in the country who are trialling a redekop seed control unit (seed smashing thing) which I think could be very useful on stuff like brome and oats which still have the seeds in the ear come harvest.
It’s with BOFIN run by Tom Allen Steven’s of CPM fame and NIAB. There’s a webinar next week introducing the concept of anyone is interested in alternative weed control?
Any data available on what % of BG seeds set actually make it to the chopper ?

My cheap T1 (1.5L folpet and 0.5L teb) also worked really well, even to the extent that my T2 was actually a T2.5 and I may (may not) skip T3 depending on the weather at flowering. I have done quite a big T2 (2.5) though to cover all the bases. But overall I’m very pleased with this year’s spend on chem and the condition of all our crops, winter and spring looking like they have excellent potential up to now. 🤞🏼
