Going back to the Broadway Star brome control thing, or lack of, has anyone used it in autumn ?
I tried one headland last autumn where the crop was going backwards as the brome was so thick in a few patches, sprayed in late November after an application in October of 2ltrs of pdm, the result was completely control of the brome and no spring recovery of the fecking stuff.

I've only used BWS in the autumn once and can't remember what for but must say it did a great job.
Been using Bandur as part of our Autumn pre em and certainly seems to be helping with the Ryegrass.

Yeah I used some bandur/liberator mix on one particularly rye grassy field and have seen only about half of what usually comes through so this may be the way forward!!

Yes, I have used it in the autumn before. There is or certainly was a BWS + PDM type product specifically aimed at autumn used, can't remember what it was called. Obviously it was designed for a follow up treatment of a pre-em where you wouldn't overload your max dose of PDM in the crop. Also, with the crop at a much earlier growth stage you had a better 'view' and go at the weeds.

I do think the rafts of farmers who historically never used any autumn/residual herbicides have not helped themselves much. Yes, a one pass wonder in march might have been nice and cheap but you put so much pressure on an ever dwindling pool of actives and many of them use the same modes of action these days.

Had a chance for a walkabout in the spring crops this afternoon.
They went in well into good moist seedbed, but the rain over the last week or so has really perked them up.

Spring Oats filling out, they got a post emergence rolling to encourage a bit of tillers, it seems to have worked.

We tend to aim for about 50 plants/m2, I think we are about there as a field average.
We are also in a Hls/Els scheme, so margina and hedges are also a crop for us. These were bursting with life.

I could hear at least 3 different bird songs, no idea what they were!
A very pleasant and pleasing hours walk.

I am pretty anal about getting pre Ems on and getting them on right, just had the forager in to contract land to wholecrop some that the Ryegrass has completely beaten us. Luckily we have hungry dairy neighbours.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
