Stone removal from fields

We have a couple of fields that have had stones dumped on them for many years from a local root grower most are from 30mm up to 75mm diameter they are mainly flints. The land is very fertile and I would like to get rid of them. The fields are a combined area of 12Ha and the stone is all over the area. Thought about modifying a destoner with a car elevator. Has anyone tried this?

Used to be a lot of the old web type machines with cart elevators . We destoned quite a few acres with such machines before the idea of reburying came along. They do make very good track bases.
I suspect there may be the odd Reikie or Grimme machine still around in the nettles some where probably need a lot of work though.
do not forget you will need a ridger too

Thanks mate. Being in the Fens I havent had much to do with destoning just a bit of declodding. I wasnt aware of any with cart elevators. If you know of the whereabouts of any such machines please let me know. Have a good Sunday.

I don’t know him or what he charges for the machine but he will send them all over the country so might be worth a call.

I hired 1 locally that did a good job but the rotors were a bit too worn to get everything up that would’ve liked

You need to come to the Brecks where I suspect your stone came from to find such machines, but beware machines coming off the sand will Be worn in places that you have never seen coming from Chatteris.
also be aware that all the cart elevators I have seen will only lift over quite small trailers as you will find a trailer of stone is very heavy to say the least. Must confess I have not seen a machine with a stone elevator for a long time now

This is @Sitting Pretty tidying up a field edge where stone had been piled over the last few hundred years. It made a great job, cast an eye over the pile at the end of the video.
The only issue for the OP will be the grate size might be too big for the smaller flints.

I have one here sat in the yard, it has a webbed feed belt that feeds into a circular drum about 12 ft long, stone then comes out the end of this drum then up an elevator, we used to dump the stone into Weeks trailers then tip where needed. It is an amazing bit of kit and certainly cleared many thousands of ton of stone from fields here.
Stone is fantastic for trackways.
It seriously chucks stone out, we used 3 trailers with it and sometimes you'd struggle to keep up with it.

It will work if you can find an elevator to fit
A stone rake speeds the job up
Don't take to much off ,especially if its heavy land

Yes, I have seen Cotswold like that topsoil; about 90% stone, goes white after a good rain
