Store lamb vaccinations

We feed a few store lambs inside on hoppers between September and May, and are currently suffering problems with pasteurella pneumonia. The lambs come in from several different sources, not knowing their previous vaccination policies. They tend to only be with us a few weeks, so not long enough to justify giving them ovivac p as most are gone before they would get their second dose. Can’t yet see the benefit of giving them alamycin la as it would only cover them for a few days then wear off, plus the withdrawal period is too long now at 24/28 days. Just wondered if there were any other suggestions? Cheers

One jab would surely increase antibody levels a bit, although it might now last long?

On the antibiotic, the last time I had an outbreak (losing 10 out of 130 vaccinated ewe lambs  in the Autumn), my vet prescribed a jab of Depocillin to the mob, rather than Alamycin. It stopped it in it's tracks, it was cheaper than Alamycin and the withdrawal period is a lot shorter, at 5 days.

On this theme I have some bought in gimmers which haven’t been vaccinated. I use bravoxin 10 would it be ok to vaccinate now and then give them the second jab in the new year ? It says 4 to 6 weeks on the leaflet but could I stretch that to 8 weeks just to get them safely in lamb or should I just wait till after new year to give them both jabs?

Unless they need protecting from clostridials whilst grazing beet/roots, I’d be inclined to wait so that the second jab tied up with the pre-lambing booster for the others.
