S o took some Chx beef stores ( 8-10 months) from their mothers and sold at local market (some 60 miles away), and reckon that they were down £150-200. Indeed everything was down some LIm X (12-14 months) sold at about 900, last year I reckon about £1200.

Was this just a bad day ?? one sage was saying the dead price is falling due to the B-Thing is going to last ?

This is covered in depth over the last 20/30 or so pages on the beef/lamb price tracker thread @buttercup .

But basically prime cattle are now down some £200/250 head on 12 months ago and store cattle and especially stirks/ calves have been badly hit price wise as a result.

Things are very unlikely to improve until the Brexit issue is sorted out and how long that will be is anyone's guess!

We sell all our stores privatley and are currently getting nearly £150 pound less per head than a year ago, all sold pence per kilo. Love the job but currently a complete waste of time

Our local market barely gets finished cattle over £1000 at the moment.

Where do you think the profit will come from if you want £1200 for 12 month store cattle , let alone a £900 one !?!

Rather then spending money buying feed for stock, some farmers really need to take a step back and spend a bit on a new calculator.

I was at a store sale this week and was left scratching my head and debating with myself, how some farmers were making any money on some stock which was sold. They would have been better off leaving the sheds empty:rolleyes:.

St Boswells, Scottish Borders, last Monday, They will have been mainly Limousin cross, and bnought by butchers. But at the same sale, anything with Angus, other native breeds and to a lesser extent Simmental and Charolais, would be well discounted.

Someone used to say that Selby was the barometer for fat cattle prices in the whole country.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
