@rhifsaith had a good day from what my Strava feed tells me- running up the century. Don’t know where he fits it in!
Cheers Dan,not sure myself
I’ve signed up to do the Aberystwyth sportive Cawr which is a 106 miles.
I struggled on the 70 last year due to doing very little training before it.
Plus we’re going out to watch the tour in July and there’s a few long days ahead there as well.
What’s the doddie 5 you’re training for

Edit. The headwind yesterday was f******n horrible

I just bought a second hand Trek 1000 8 speed alu frame 10 year old bike and got into a bit of road biking. I'm too old for rugby now and don't like running.

My experience of it so far has been great. I have hybrid but can't get over how much more efficient it feels to be on a road bike.

A question as its going to be a bit busy next 2 months but generally whats the score with winter road cycling for you all? No problem or do you tend to hibernate. I have no interest in getting a turbo trainer but I would be able to pick my days

I tend to turbo because I'm quite a nervous cyclist but happy to come out with you on dry days (y)

I reckon you've got some slightly better routes up there than my area. I have also realised lots of car drivers are total arses. Telling fudge off onto cycle path or overtaking in tiny gaps.

I'd rather get lazy than turbo train!
I'm only just finding routes here since moving  I knew places from strumble head no problem  Ye car drivers are tw*ts, I got swore at a lot today, never had that running or riding my horse

I got myself a cyclocross bike for the winter. It has grippier tyres and disc brakes I can also go on the trails with it. I also have an old hard tail that I can chuck on the back of the combine or a digger bucket. Very handy for harvest and drilling logistics.

We ride all winter here, some mudguards and decent clobber help no end.
It's worth considering joining your local club, they will have a well honed selection of routes that will avoid traffic, it also helps to ride with others to help get you out on that dark cold winter morning.

I think you will get more out of cycling if you ride year round. It’s great to have a goal in mind whilst you are putting the winter miles in. Just get some warm kit as others have said. The only thing I do to my bike is put much tougher tyres on. Punctures are no fun with cold wet hands.
Edit, some people ride in icy conditions, personally I would avoid that!!

Great fun on CX tyres.

Does that mean you bought a bike as a business expense? Can this be done? I do have two blocks of land 12 miles apart that need equipment shifting back and for all the time

I'm no expert but I "think" anyone can do the cycle to work scheme.

I don't think a self-employed farmer can actually use the cycle to work scheme . but you can buy a bike through your business I bought a road bike and obviously got the VAT back and it was against tax and then I bought a bike in the sale which was 40% off which you can't do on the cycle to work scheme either ,so it worked out quite cheap
