BTW, I do feel my problem are a bit trivial, which I do feel embarrassed about compared to the sheep farmers amongst us who are having a hellish time lambing in this weather

don't fret about that...i've seen both sides.....sitting on your hands waiting on weather....clock ticking.....yield potential dropping....been there:rolleyes:....oh and RT dreaming up more hoops:banghead:

Getting ones leg over makes me sleep like a baby.

Always a good suggestion!

There are all sorts of things you can do from breathing to counting backwards. I got a fitbit for Xmas as it monitors your sleep patterns, how long and in what state. Your heartbeat needs to be normal and feet warm (that might be old wives tale) to go to sleep.

Failing doing that, my daughter likes being read to.

Had the same problem a few times in my life,i dont think its stress or the lap top, just something that happens to us every now and then.
I am very stressed with the weather and lambing at he mo,and like a lot of us behind with a lot of jobs, fixing, maitaining, fencing ect ect, but im out like a light each night.
The trick is to just forget about it dont think it over and over,i used to tell myself ok if were not going to sleep thats fine and just get up the next day and carry on,the change in season has a lot to do with it with the lighter morns and eves, upsets somthing in us,dont panic and just carry on,if you get that you cant stand anymore go to gp and get some meds,no booze thats the worst thing you could do.... It will pass, if your are awake things will go over and over in your mind, what else can you do, Thats my take on Insomnia,

I fall asleep easily enough but if I wake in the early hours I struggle to get back to sleep. Usually woken by the Mrs snoring then the only option is the spare room.

I listen to podcasts using headphones so as not to wake the other half - you can set them to switch off after x minutes - a perfect distraction to get me back to sleep. Everything always seems a much bigger problem in the early hours
A big +1 for that. And no matter how much you convince your self that you know in your own head it’s only seaming worse because it’s the middle of the night you can’t help yourself.

yeah and its like GTB says you dont want to/try not to wake anyone up.

....and so there is no one to talk to, bit of a lonely place it is as well..

Ive not been to bed before 3am for the last 10 weeks due to lambing, some mornings I’ve not hit the pillow untill 6am after 24 hours straight through and all i can say is, when you cant sleep you simply cant sleep I’ve been there loads of times over the last 2 and a half months and when that brain starts to get stimulated and spinning around in circles it takes a hell of a lot to stop it!!

Best remedy I’ve found is to concentrate very hard on the following - lightly tense up and down every muscle in your body starting with your toes, then ankles, calf’s, thighs, stomach and back muscles, up your arms all the way to your hands and back up to your neck and then back down! Keep repeating the above! The wave motion will send you off to sleep but you have to focus only on this as its so freaking boring it’ll help send u off lol.

Hope this helps
Good luck

Watch a film in bed like "Driving miss Daisy" that would send me off in minutes, as already mentioned 30 to 60 mins of sex does it for me, the problem is every night is a big ask. I also find a drink or to helps, and i dont mean horlicks, a couple of bottles of Henry westons will do the trick.
The biggest problem i have is when i nod off in front of the tv down stairs for 1 hour or so. then go to bed, it can be a problem to drop back off then. If you do this, try not to cat knap in the evening.

I don't have trouble going to sleep as long as the TV is on, just to take my mind off the day's problems but I often wake up at 3/4am and there's no way I can get back to sleep then. Usually nod off about 5.55 and my alarm goes off at 6. The worst thing about waking up in the early hours is not being to do anything about it without waking the rest of the house up so usually end up staring into the darkness with all sorts of things going through my mind...

same here at the moment , i put a small radio next to my side of the bed with bud headphones tuned to radio 4 , quietest setting , if i wake up , put one headphone in my ear , stops my brain working and can get back to sleep . doesnt disturb anyone .Thought i was the only one having trouble sleeping at the moment

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.
