Always used to have a loop of starter cord (which lasted for years) as it was stiffer than bale string.

Gone proper fancy with a new toy this year though...

Fantastic for looping behind heads.👍

Try as I might I can't see how you attach that to the Merlo to give you that extra special pull?

OTOH just to be positive and out of character (must be the sleep deprivation 🙄) I could see someone with bad hand arthritis appreciating that. When my Mom got rheumatoid arthritis it was an eye-opener ☹️.
I wouldn't rule out using one because my hands are a bit mangled now, but would need assistant to hold the ewe. It's not going to be the same as positioning a cow with a calving hurdle. That can be precarious enough!

We make them with a bit of wire stripped from twin and earth and a bit of broom handle , the wire is stiff enough to hold a loop

My lambing kit consists of arm length gloves, bottle of lube, length of conventional baler band and a very sharp knife. It’s been that way for 30 years and not likely to change. Pretty much all you need.
..................and a head noose surely?
