Stupid question about sheep no. 34467

OK, thanks for all the comments. Very educational as usual. But the crux of it is this:

If I go for later, outdoor lambing and keep ewe lambs to 18 months or so before putting to the tup, regardless of breed, will I be at a huge disadvantage to the ultimate commercial farmer? It's a partially loaded question, I appreciate. But I don't know what I've loaded it with.

Let's qualify by saying it's a very low input system, concentrating more on genetics than bought in feed to make good and that the stocking rate will allow for plenty of forage / foggage to exist.

The key to your success will not be the lamb growth rate or other performance factor but rather your marketing I think
You will not be competing with the large ''commercial'' producer so optimise your sales by direct marketing and using the ''story '' behind the sheep you have (they are ideal for this )

That's the plan I set out with. Will see if it works! Thanks.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
