This week my daughter was given this handout sheet as part of an English lesson exercise, year 7.

I personally find it full of disinformation, essentially 'fake news'.

Is it acceptable?

How/who to approach the school?

Gather all your facts about Pig production.
What this has to do with English lessons I am at a loss to understand, it is vegan propaganda at its worst.

Book an appointment to see the head, along with at least one of the board of governors to be in attendance.

You have a pm

Unbelievable! That is not educating children, its pure propaganda and politics to steer the kids the way those responsible want.. who has the authority and knowledge and experience to make all these sweeping generalisations? not the teachers or the author of that sheet i guarantee you.. its pure lying basically.. in-creeedabble!

This has to be some vegan organised propaganda the way its written... not even slightly discreet or subliminal in saying ... pigs are like your dog.. would you eat your pet?
Yes all animals have intelligence (no i cant, cant put sheep in there even though they are.. driving me up the wall at the moment) but they arent raised as pets to the person that eats them and as intelligent as they are they get knowledge from experience and you only get stunned and killed once, no matter how much you play with childrens sentiments.

As Llamedos said, try to copy to a governor if you contact school head. If you have the true facts to offer them, they may invite you to go and talk to the pupils.

Yes,we don't keep pigs and this was only shown to me first thing this morning.

On questioning my daughter this morning about the 'facts' in the piece her reply was 'it must be fact because a teacher gave it me'!!!!!

I think maybe this is more than a parent complaining so I may contact the local NFU and maybe get one of their experts to approach the school.

To put a proper complaint in you have to be up to speed on the 'facts'.

Thanks for all replies.

Just asked the oh who is acting head what she thinks.. bit more level headed than me:) says what was the context of the lesson, the learning outcome and why they felt that text was most appropriate for what they were covering. They should have their english curriculum on their school website which shows what they are covering through the year. Was a leaflet given say by a pig farmer saying his reality of how pigs are raised and it used as a debate showing differing view points?

Best going to the English teacher first and feel out whats going on, ask them to show them how it fits into the year 7 curriculum.. go to the head if not satisfied who might give a slap on the wrist for teaching kids with this type of unbalanced propaganda, and finally if not satisfied go to the LA. Personally i think kids are more likely to be funny about meat at that age and wouldn't be happy with this type of misinformation being used.
