They are just trying to get footfall into their shops so the customers do their Xmas shop there.
Let’s hope everyone uses the butcher instead
Trouble is that if everyone did start going to the butcher, like you said,
Price of fat stock would slump big style, too reasons, one supermarkets would stop buying it, and butcher's would not be able to handle the volume of sales,
Is that what you want, fat stock worth didley squat, naf all

Yes, you said it - TOWN.
I was meaning cities and large towns, you might not have them in your part of the world, but you can drive for ages in them and only see slums and boarded up crap.
I was specifically excluding "Halal" Butchers from my thoughts.
Theres plenty of decent butchers around here, but round here does not account for the vast majority of meat sales.

As for being out of touch with reality - probably a lot.

There are seven cities in Scotland and I have been in butchers in each and every one of them. I’ve been to plenty in England too - London has a few, as does Manchester, Liverpool, ...

Large towns ? Again they all have butcher shops.

Edit - make it easier for us, do tell which cities don’t have butcher shops.

OK, lets try explaining it a different way.
There are a lot less butchers shops in towns than there used to be.

Whether this is a direct result of supermarkets or reduced meat consumption in general is debatable, but the little town where I grew up used to have 4, now 1.
I stand behind my assertion that most, or at very least , a significant portion of the 'housewives' that do the shopping in the UK, do not use a butchers shop on a regular and frequent basis. (Use supermarket instead.)
If you're gonna pick holes in this feel free, but I can't be arsed to answer.
