Winds me up drinking if it’s nice. Love a pint when it’s rainingAhh lass, pints taste better in the beating sun - than the wind and rain (which is colder than the beer)
well i'm a yorkshireman an even i'm not that tight that i want rain water to top me pint upWinds me up drinking if it’s nice. Love a pint when it’s raining
Nithsdale how are you getting on with the Nugent trailer? Had a look at one at the show, it’s a nice well made trailer. I’ve had Ifors for years but that sheep deck ramp feels like it will disintegrate
Yeah it’s good, sheep go in and come back out again 5 years now and no problems. Only thing I don’t like is I have to go outside the gates to knock the catch forward or down to lift the ramp which can be annoying if I’ve fort knox’ed double height hurdles for freshly weaned springers. I think the new ones have a different design.I actually still haven't used it yet. Our old Ifor had a better finish to it (I think Nugent are maybe rushing these trailers out currently to keep up with orders - there's the odd grinder mark on the ally and odd 2nd holes where they've shifted a bolt a few mm - all things you don't notice until you go looking). I like it, but had best wait til it's had a few loads through it
@Al R and @Jerry both have Nugent trailers and can give you a better opinion

I know a few people running them on big dairy herds transporting 5-6 Holsteins a day and they arn’t rattling either
The side lights are pretty strong at the fronts, wife had a Jag 4x4 and a Porsche 4x4 last year which were parked on our lane. 1 light is untouched, the other bent back an inch. The cars would need new doors all down 1 sideThe lever for the ramp is a bit of a faff, but I think once I'm using it I'll get into the way of it better. It's closer to the trailer (when the door is down) than the little lever on the Ifor - so I'm really hoping it's the end of unloading then having to drive forward 2ft to the end of the loading banks at Longtown with the door down to get the ramp back down and shut the back door

Quiet away shearing, no big days really. Did 90/160 on Tuesday, the other 70/160 on Wednesday - hill twins, running inbye. Lambs are OK, feel they're maybe a bit plainer this year but doing well all the same - and then did 140 yesterday, that's the ewes with the Texel twins... noticed a few dirty bums on the lambs so kept them handy after shearing yesterday, nipped away to town and got some wormer and a few bottles of pour on
Wet here today but fetched the Texel lambs back in, wormed this morning and I'm just finished splashing Vectocert (Crovect) about on them.
I was actually a bit disappointed in the lambs when I first gathered them up on Wednesday night for shearing yesterday... but running them through the shedder and getting my hands on them, I'm very pleased! And they look even better now the ewes are shorn. Catched some of the biggest and put them over the scales at 37-38kgs dosing them (fighting with them ) they've fairly done since worming and cocci dose about a month ago
Just the singles out on the hill left to shear here, hopefully next week so I'm free to run away to the Highland for a day, and 2 night's rest up in Edinburgh
They are looking really well, Niths. Soon be a pick from them!
You might want to get your scales checked. Ours have always weighed at least 3kg heavier than Harry's!Haven't been back at those Texel lambs since I posted those pics, despite plenty probably being ready for a draw...
I came home from the Highland Show to be told the news that the gate between those lambs and the hill lambs was somehow opened and both groups are well mixed
Texel lambs sprayed with Vectocert (Crovect) with a short 8-day withdrawal - hill singles sprayed with Zermasect (Dysect) with a 7-week withdrawal ... so I'm waiting until August 10th when I can safely sell lambs from that mob without worrying about retentions
I did sell 17 Beltex lambs a week past on Wednesday. Over my scales at home I reckoned they should average 39kgs and decided to send them as trade was good... market had them at 37kg, £117 they made. A bit too light I know but I decided to jump when trade was good - expecting the thing to slide as it usually does this time of year.
1 day shearing left to go, on Blackies. Not sure when we will get back to them, wait til after this mega-heatwave is by with hopefully!!
Been at silage the last week and a bit, 100 acres done cropping 988 bales. The last field, 17 acres, is currently cut but won't bale it til Monday...
Hauling bales currently, until I had a blow out on the trailer stopped the job tonight. Hopefully get it repaired in the morning
Not much else happening really.
Longtown market been on the phone for the opening store lamb sale on Tuesday. Way things are going I won't have anything at it, maybe the 2nd sale...
This year is popping along at some old rate!

I never sell this early in the season lol, although there are a few lambs can't be far away looking at themMy scales weigh right. You can't mess up when you use a 56'er to calibrate
Market don't normally steal kgs this early in the season which is what caught me out
Lovely lambs, Niths.
