The "I`ve got it" thread...

A nurse would have to put 42% of her salary into a private pension to get the same gold plated benefits in the NHS scheme. You are overpaid under worked and grossly over pensioned. Very few on here would give any kind of job to the numpty that blundered about on TV the other day slavering about political decisions, then retracting them.
You haven't suffered one iota compared to the income generators in the economy and it will come back to bite you as the usual CS view is raise taxes, however as we all know that actually raises less money. Seems to pass most Humphreys by.

Well, as I`m NHS staff I can conclusively say I am not "overpaid".

I am contracted to work 37.5 hours a week, averages at about 42 a week at the moment "because", the work is time consuming and mentally taxing but certainly not the hardest job I`ve ever done, 30+ years in the meat trade wins that hands down.

The final salary pension scheme, that "gold plated one", was done away with in stages across 1995,2008 and 2015. The 2015 scheme pays "A pension worth 1/54th of each years’ pensionable earnings, revalued at the beginning of each following scheme year in line with a rate set by Treasury plus 1.5 % whilst in active membership with an option for a lump sum up to 25% of capital value"

You are correct that I haven`t "suffered", not sure if you want me to flagellate myself or just carry on doing the day job that means other people can do theirs?

I have intentionally avoided the "income generator" part, when it would be a cheap shot at somebody who may have been fortunate enough to be born into their opportunity and subsidised by the very system they appear to despise.

Stay well, stay safe.

I find myself wondering where all the infections come from now? :scratchhead:

I can only assume it’s those in the economy still going about their business - doctors, nurses, care homes, care workers, army etc.

Perhaps in another few weeks they will hit herd immunity.

If a person who has it could have it for 5 days without symptoms, over that time they could easily pass it onto just 1 other person, and that perpetuates the national number. It doesn’t take much......

There's lots of people still working, lots of people shopping and there's those who don't think social distancing apply to them. I wouldn't be surprised if the modellers of herd immunity knew it would play out like this.

I think it will be more than a few weeks though.

The trouble is there’s quite a lag time for each case. An R of 0.5 means it halves over the length of time one person is infected with the virus.

I understand the governments position, but I find it disappointing there isn’t more forward forecasting provided so we could see some targets and progress.

Some interesting numbers here:

View attachment 871436

UK has a life expectancy of over 80 and the costs are below 10% of GDP. Israel and Korea look cheaper and better.......
Spain and Italy look better but more costly.
America is an expensive joke.

Which model would you choose?
I thought I would post a long and informative [please note, not scientifically referenced] blog here. It should be of interest to those in who are staggered at the cost of healthcare. Healthy types and chronically sick will find it [I may be weird here] fascinating.

Lots of people I know have had various symptoms and effects including myself and son etc etc.
The German machines that can be converted to tell if you have had C19 will allow us to get to the 100's of thousands of tests needed to prove how much herd immunity is already here.
What this C19 has done is prove how big a joke our Civil Service is. Every one is blaming govnt but the Humphreys need thinned out drastically.
Who are the only ones not hurting in this debacle, them. Cut their pensions over 12k a year by 30% to pay for this. We paid it in for them so they can share the pain now.
@Breakthru A post I have made before about other heathcare systems. Which of the below would you like to pay for and receive healthcare from that is so much better?

I am genuinely interested in your thoughts and reasons.

Is it possible there will be several vaccines that all work or will it be the first one that works will be ‘the’ one and they will make loads of it for everybody

Thinking again on this - multiple different vaccines may be easier (and possibly more effective - think multiple modes of action for resistance, or success in different groups e.g ethnicity, age etc) because they could be scaled up quicker and easier than just a single vaccine.

Interesting (although being from Twitter always taken with a pinch of salt) they are say that connecting to a ventilator is not the best option. Is this what UK hospitals are now being told?

Certainly I have seen several reports and also about 3 weeks ago a Twitter discussion between top UK consultants which shared lessons learned from countries that had the surge before we did, and UK hospitals that had the most experience earlier in Feb/Mar. The twitter discussion was after a Zoom (or equivalent) conference between said consultants. Proning has already been discussed on here, several weeks ago, and the lessons learned also advised using CPAP machines (commonly used with sleep apnoea sufferers) potentially instead of ventilation. However, as I understand it, this can result in greater oxygen demand in hospitals. There has also been an acceptance of slightly lower thresholds for hypoxia - ie lower oxygen in the bloodstream, by a reduction of the safety margin by a few %.
