The wrong oil

Ringing around for an oil for a power shift gearbox. Rang the normal supplier and told them what tractor I had and I would need an oil for that gearbox type.
They rang back and said they had the oil I needed and supplie it.
Now having used 40 or so litres from the barrel I find out its not the right oil for the gear box.
I have talk to the oil manufacturer and they have said its the wrong oil and made no more comment once I have told them I have been using it.
Talked to the supplier and they have said it is the right oil. Once I have point out that its not they have gone very quiet.
Now I have 160 litre of oil that is not suitable for any thing I have here.
Also I how do I stand up on any future gearbox fails from using the wrong oil.
I would think any thing will be difficult to prove.

Unless your gearbox has some very fancy metals, friction surfaces or seals in it that no-one elses gearbox has, a decent oil isn't likely to cause much harm in the short term.

This is why you have a manual for the tractor.

Even dealers get it wrong, even with serial numbers. I found just as I was about to replace my front axle oil a paragraph in the manual that said to use a slightly different rated gearbox oil if fitted with a Carraro axle than the normal gearbox oil if fitted with a Dana axle (iirc). Dealer had given me the more common gearbox oil. Yet they insist on serial numbers..... so what's the point, eh?

What oil do you have?

Did you get oil from tractor place or lubricant specialist?
Have you paid for it

The tractor is a Fastrac with the P Tronic gearbox
I asked the supplier for an oil that was suitable for that gearbox. The supplier is very familiar with oil. It's not the main part of their business, but a big part of it.

I was given Comma Transflow ML10w-30
JCB specify.,JCB 4004/0300
The tractors not new, just short of 8000 hours.

The Comma Transflow ML 10W/30 is a direct replacement or alternative to the JCB oil shown above and if that is the recommended oil for your tractor then you have absolutely nothing to worry about. Whoever told you it was unsuitable is mistaken or telling porkies.
Comma dont recommend Transflow as a replacement.
