Absolutely as long as you are good at it, seems to be though that ag machinery is the most difficult machines to diagnose

Most modern kit with a screen has its own diagnostics at the push of a button, fixing the faults are the expensive bit, not finding them tbh

My experience tbh would say the diagnostics are the most costly / time consuming part, especially with intermittent faults
Whereas changing the parts is usually quicker 😜

Noted, it wouldn't be much a service to offer then haha
I think it would be a limited market to be honest, I don't remember the last time we had to plug in diagnostics. Plenty of times for reprogramming or updating software. Diagnostics are only half the story though. Continuity testing and wiring issues would have a market, along with ecu testing on some occasions. Its something modern day fitters can be bad for is blaming an ecu for a relay issue and replacing parts that are damned expensive in hope it'll magically cure... auto electrician for ag would have a good market if it of interest, but not straight diagnostics on its own.

We are exploring the idea of providing agricultural diagnostic service. With the price of main dealers so high, would this be useful?
Would only really work for simple things the farmer can fix himself. Which are getting fewer and fewer.

If the farmer has to get a fitter out to fix a problem that you've diagnosed, the first thing he's going to do is put his own laptop on to double check the diagnosis.

Which, kind of renders your original diagnosis redundant...

Yes, that happens on a rare occasion, the chap is thinking to make a business of it, truth is, its going to be a very limited market. @David1968 has pretty much summed up that side above... I absolutely encourage people to set up new business and to pioneer themselves a future... off that I've made a few suggestions to the op. When somebody has the forethought to ask a genuine question I believe in being straight with them as it would be a real shame for them to fall at the first hurdle and find there isn't the work out there that they hoped for.
