To much protein for 7/8 month weaned sukler calves?!

If it wasn't so dry then I would be concerned as they would be sh*tting everywhere. They should motor on it though, why have they bean weaned so young?

I feel they doo better on loose house straw and tidy food instead of leaving them with the cows in the cubicles over winter. Used to do that and they were worse for coughing aswell

@tinsheet how does this forage compare to the stuff you feed your weaned calves on?
Not had it analysed this year (yet) :rolleyes:
But last years 1st cut red clover was 21% protein 2nd cut about 18%, but with more fibre in it as I let it flower to fix nitrogen. They certainly did well on it,
I tend to feed it with hay, 1 because I don't have an unlimited supply
2 don't like them shitting everywhere.
So they could possibly do better on adlib red cover
Got told a few years ago by a family friend, when a bullock craps it should sound like a slow hand clap then you've got its diet right!
