I'd say you're ok with protein as they are reasonably balanced between rapid and slow break down proteins.
You might get some scouring from sugars at such a high a DM, which will be made worse by such a low NDF.

I'd start off with some soya hulls or beet pulp.

Don't know the definitive answer but I would think it would make them loose.

I’d say 7/8 months was an ideal age to spane

I feel they doo better on loose house straw and tidy food instead of leaving them with the cows in the cubicles over winter. Used to do that and they were worse for coughing aswell

No clover at all just long term dual purpose perennial ryegrass mix.

They will often skitter on dry stuff more than moderate DM as sugars are so concentrated.

Not had it analysed this year (yet)
But last years 1st cut red clover was 21% protein 2nd cut about 18%, but with more fibre in it as I let it flower to fix nitrogen. They certainly did well on it,
I tend to feed it with hay, 1 because I don't have an unlimited supply
2 don't like them shitting everywhere.
So they could possibly do better on adlib red cover
Got told a few years ago by a family friend, when a bullock craps it should sound like a slow hand clap then you've got its diet right!
