I was told the 3070 I worked, was a straight 100hp, it was 4cyl turbocharged.
Some ones been telling me fibs.

IH 1206 One of the first turbocharged tractors, simple dry sleeved engine that liked to be turned up. That one made 14k hours on the original engine with the fuel turned up most of its life.

77 or 7810 JD Lot of high hour abused machines out there with very few major failures. These machines appear no longer affordable due to being so desirable. You can often get something a bit newer for less.

JD 4960 Good basic powershift tractor that was widely available mfwd. Lots of minimal trouble high houred ones out there. Mechanical injection and good horsepower. Still mostly affordable but hard to find low hours.


All of these tractors will beat the ever living sh!t out of you on rough ground, there are much more comfortable tractors to drive these days. They will just likely have a higher cost of ownership

The powerstar is indeed a fantastic engine
Just a shame the back half of the tractor wasn't as good

i would not go that far what about the engine in a 1056 or maxum 5150 jd 7810 /7820

The maxxum engine I would not say is any better than powerstar, however it definitely sounds better

Yes Cummins are premier league engines,Maxxum putting out 120 + up is at the lower end of the output,in some marine applications apparently 300hp from same block and running to mega hours as well.

Must be the same engine as in the 185 fastrac as I was told the same once by a Cummins man.

MF 1250. It leaked less oil and had more oomph than the 1200.
Ford/NH 8340. So good they should still make them today.
JCB Fastrack 2135. Most reliable tractor I ever had.

Yes 300hp engine de rated I believe, best sounding tractor engine ever

6 cylinder Perkins in the older mfs is an incredible sound.
Same as above. They all sound well.
Also Perkins 236/236t possibly the best
