I used to have a young lad help out and he got used to NH's, he got a lift in a Deere one day, he was quite shocked at the sh!t coloured interior and put him off Deeres for life!
It takes me a good 10 minutes to figure out how to make the newer tractors just go forward a bit. Anything more complicated than that and I am stuffed.
I could learn it and pick it up pretty quick but I definitely couldn't get on a strange tractor and go and use it without training.
Many farmers are just as snobbish about tractors though . Goodness knows what they will do in Shropshire if the rumours are true about Rea Valley stopping selling John Deeres.
I no longer own a tractor at all, so won’t concern me .

I’d be more worried that at nearly the start of Harvest he is still looking for a job! That would have been enough to put me off. Surely the good ones all signed up back in the spring? Or were you let dow at last minute?so
is a 30 series deere which is immaculate and had new seat a very expensive top of range ,one
deemed an old heap nowadays
do people just want the new sparkly 20,21 plate with all the toys
man came for harvest job liked every thing wage accommodation etc

He’s doing his own thing in the industry and so is our daughter .Is your son not interested?
had some one coming all sorted and gave back wordI’d be more worried that at nearly the start of Harvest he is still looking for a job! That would have been enough to put me off. Surely the good ones all signed up back in the spring? Or were you let dow at last minute?
do you want a trailer full of pipes to repairAll the talk of irrigation in this thread has got me missing it! I never operated them but used to fix them for a living. Know my way round a reel and quite liked the driving around different places working in the sunshine. And let’s be honest if you’ve a broken reel and you’ve got to the stage of calling someone in… people was always happy to see me
Oh I pick it up quick but it isn't always intuitive. Our Same was all controlled from the joystick and I managed to use that alright once I got the hang of it. We had a big sprayer on it and plugging the hydraulics in for the boom control on that was like trying to decode a spiders web!you'd be amazed how quickly you'd pick it up...i helped m8 out other year corn carting.....mf with cvt ...lush for corn carting..wouldn't want one meself though cos if it went wrong £££££££££££££££
Is your son not working age now?had some one coming all sorted and gave back word
and game keeper tractor driver has had to retire early quite serious heart condition , basically his relief valve in heart could go pop any time if over did things and lights out
It's only a harvest job.
Long hours but as long as aircon and seat are ok it's ok.
Would it be ok to whinge at 10+ year old tractors on a potential full time job?
Are we entering a 2 tier payment system for staff?
Tractor under 3 years old £10 an hour, tractor over 10 years old £12?
Lidl’s be a harder job than carting grain……Honestly that isnt going to be enough to get anyone interested, lidl's are advertising for shelf stackers/workers at £11.40 per hour!
That's slightly more than my wife gets as a qualified TA in local school
I've no idea of actual rates. I just work for me.Honestly that isnt going to be enough to get anyone interested, lidl's are advertising for shelf stackers/workers at £11.40 per hour!

Still know where I would rather work.Probably not especially if your carting via public roads and long hours.
Rate might depend on how much spannering you have to do.I've no idea of actual rates. I just work for me.
That said I'm driving a 25 year old combine for a friend this summer. Should I ask for a % of throughput?
It gets a rebuild every winter. I've very few concerns on that score.Rate might depend on how much spannering you have to do.
