What are the legalities of towing a trailer behind a trailer with a tractor?
I am looking to run a tractor with a trailer but will occasionally need to tow the operators van on a trailer behind that to enable him to move to a new site/location under his own steam. Is that legal and how is it view by VOSA?

Illegal I'm afraid. You are allowed to tow two trailers but the second trailer is not allowed to carry a load, so you couldn't carry a van. There is also issues about a low taxed vehicle towing a higher tax classed vehicle.

If it were a silage trailer I'd say hide the van in that and carry on

Surely similar to towing 2 silage trailers and better than 3?
you can get rigs that you drive onto that go under the front wheels of a car so that you can hitch onto something else.

A wood chipper is not a trailer.

You'll need white diesel to tow the van as well.

Is Tractor on white and reagistered and taxes as non ag? If so a loss. If it’s on red abs zero road tax then no I’m afraid m. Use the cost savings of red and no tax to pick him up..... honestly

If you are doing "non forestry" tree work like domestic garden work or power line clearance, you shouldn't be using an agricultural tractor.

Still no. You can’t in any way tow, cart or any other way transport a vehicle that runs on taxed fuel with another vehicle that’s using rebated fuel.

Does that apply if the transported vehicle is sorn'd? We picked up 2 old horse lorrie's with a low loader from an nearby farm sale

Yes. Comes under the category of revenue evasion for fuel in the tractor amongst a load of other laws you’re breaking at the same time. Picking up the horse boxes isn’t part of any agricultural operation and is purely haulage. Someone could have a result if it was their job to catch you breaking the law.

Knew someone who carried a 125 trail bike in a small Ifor , but again as other have said, illegal if VOSA or Police are in a mood.
