1000hp here between 6 tractors between 7 and 26yrs old, and 39800hrs between them doing everything on 950acres (includes 250ac potatoes) and 1200 pigs. Straw baled, all potatoes stored.
so 1.05hp per acre
3 telehandlers, NH CX760 combine (puts hp/ac up to 1.7)
Everything in house except beet harvesting and hedgecutting
Nothing hired except muckspreader
2 full time plus me, up to 4 part time plus grading staff
two tractors hired for potato planting and harvesting (owned & operated by two of the part time men)
Average field size on this farm 11ac, overall it's nearer 15acres (lots of headlands!)

I hope @White rabbit doesn’t see this post. He thinks you only have a vegetable plot of potatoes 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Wow, plenty of responses - I certainly appreciate all of them, so thank you!

Would it be fair to say most implements (seeders, cultis etc) are probably in the region of 3-6m wide, up to a few hundred acres of field? I honestly didn't expect so many responses to be that of <150hp in tractor units, especially across so many acres. I guess Farm Simulator doesn't really paint an accurate picture :geek:

I'm perplexed by those who describe a shed full of big kit as "impressive", I've always been more impressed by those who seem to get by with the bare minimum. Says he who has about 3.5 hp/acre.
I’m farming 160 acres and doing hire work, I am delighted to have a shed full of machinery and every year I change or buy extra machines , they all have to pay for themselves . The day I retire I will call an auction of all the machinery , if I did it today I’d have about €7-800,000 worth over what I owe on finance . Won’t be a bad payday.

I saw a friend playing Farm Simulator. I asked how big his loss was and he replied that he was in profit. I then realised it was only a game.

The second hand market for gear over 6m is very limited. You can get a second hand 8m drill as cheap as a 6m one.

On Thursday 26th September, we’re holding a webinar for farmers to go through the guidance, actions and detail for the expanded Sustainable Farming Incentive (SFI) offer. This was planned for end of May, but had to be delayed due to the general election. We apologise about that.

Farming and Countryside Programme Director, Janet Hughes will be joined by policy leads working on SFI, and colleagues from the Rural Payment Agency and Catchment Sensitive Farming.

This webinar will be...
