Unifying control systems

These last few days , i have had the dubious pleasure of driving several different handlers, and was struck by the diversity of controls on them.
Surely this must be a huge safety issue. I would point out that firstly I have no ticket for any, since my own was was time limited and I have not renewed it. I have though driven loaders of differing makes and types since first using a fergie 2 with a banana loader.
I was driving in a safe area where no other persons were near and my main consideration was the value of the goods on the pallets I was placing on my trailer.
I was shocked at how different the controls were, forward reverse switch on one where the boom in and out on another. On one boom in out was rocking sideways on the lift lever, on another, this was the crowd function.
One one farm, I was moving things between two, one person ( a respected member on here) told me they had 4 different teleporters and every one had different controls.
Surely , this must have given rise to many accidents, probably blamed on lack of training, but in reality operator confusion, when you are using different machines in a short space of time.
Incidentally two of the machines I complain about came from JCB and there can be no possible excuse for a system where it would be very easy to tilt a highly valuable pallet , which you had intended to boom in!
Thank fully I had time on my side and a lot of patience, but loading potato boxes would certainly try my patience, with an impatient driver!

Are all car controls the same? Who showed you the controls and made sure you are familiar with it?
Regarding JCB, was one construction spec and one ag? our old yard one was construction spec and left and right on boom was boom in and out.
it happens when manitou are left hand drive and JCB right hand drive ;)

The JCBs were indeed ag spec and construction spec. Construction spec was an awful machine to drive except far more control as the electronic versions seem very abrupt.
I was given full instructions but changing machines at both ends certainly had me challenged :)
I think it is generally far easier to hop in and out of cars, they all have the same silly idea that in automatics you push lever forward to go back and back to go forward, what bright spark thought that was clever ? Henry Ford ?
At least tractor designers can agree on one good thing.
