Thanks. Yeah covered it off in my PM exchange with DIFTK a day or so ago.Aerial cable length can be a prob. Ours came with 5m When I asked about extending it, was not recommended. All to do with loss / gain or something.

Basically the twin-coax that comes attached with quite a few (nearly all!) external antennas is quite a small gauge (for cheapness), so pretty high loss, and beyond a few metres of the stuff, you start to go backwards! - that is anything you gain, by extending the cabling to get the antanna in a higher/better place you lose in the shitty cabling.
So without resorting to bigger gauge coax (££) and an antenna with separate ports (more £££), you basically need to treat the router and external antenna as a “package” that you need best place up a pole say, with the router tucked away just inside.
Then run a Cat 5/6 cable to where you need your network connection.
