Unused holiday entitlements

Obviously if I could I would of , single handed worker with no one to cover when I’m not around
I’d say that’s your employer’s problem more than yours.

If they want to run a business then they need to have provisions for holiday cover in place, wtf did they expect to happen when they told you you had (at least) 18 days holiday allowance?

I’ve 18 days untaken holiday which I’ve no way of taking before the end of December , what does everyone do regarding untaken holiday entitlement ?
It’s likely I lose them as I can’t take them and employer won’t pay for them

the thread has run a bit. You don’t seem fussed to have the time off, so, mearly insist he pays you for them

How would you feel if your boss came and said you were having a 7% pay cut, because that is effectively what they have got out of you.
The value of the holiday entitlement increases as my pay does. If they start saying use it or loose it, I'll use it, which may or may not be convienient for the farm and business. I've never had much time off in the summer and miss out on a lot. I'm not the only person in the country that can operate a sprayer or combine.

Right let’s clear this up !!!!

1 I didn’t come on here to be insulted or belittled

2 your all correct I’m not fussed , my post was merely to ask what others do !

3 . the suggestion that I take the rest of the year off is honestly astounding , so because I don’t take all my holiday i shaft my employer who gives me a house , a vehicle an a salary and never moans if I ask for a day off short notice or I want an hour here an there to see my kids play etc etc , yea sounds like a great idea , honestly I’m glad I don’t employ anyone with that attitude but sadly it’s more common place nowadays than my attitude!!!!

If I could delete the thread I would or failing that I may just leave you all too it

As an employer I ask all employees to take all their holidays each year.

We used to allow rolling holiday over, but found that just meant people didn’t take them and we ended up with big backlogs. We now allow a maximum of 3 day to be rolled over.

In the situation you are in, as your employer I would consider that I had financially benefited from your extra work by saving the cost of covering your time off. I would feel it only right share that benefit with you.

Why get upset with the answers, you ask the question which most people seem to agree that you should get paid for your unused holidays, but you have already said your boss won’t pay you. You can’t take the time off and you can’t roll them over so what answer did you expect? I don’t see a lot of other options

Is there a reason that you haven’t taken your holidays this year like your boss being ill or something particular going wrong on the farm or do you normally just let your spare holiday days go

Sounds like your boss would have no problem paying you for the holidays you haven't taken. And why shouldnt he, youve worked when you could have been on holiday, and he hasn't had the inconvenience of having to sort other arrangements out if you had been away.

I was thinking similar tbh, people come on and make out like you're a blithering idiot if you have any sort of passion for what you do and put in more than the bare minimum to scrape by.
You're commited to your job which is a admirable thing and your employer is very lucky to have you. I'd agree with some if you're doing the work of a man and a half you should be paid accordingly, fair work for fair pay, but if you think you are already then fair dos.
I'd say maybe words should be had about maybe rolling holidays over to next year though, but you know your own situation better than anybody here.
