Hi all

Just been to see a J reg 50HX digger. Now I know f-all about diggers but I can’t decide whether it’s worth the ask of £9.5k.
Clock showing 2.7k hours but the guy seemed unaware if it was working 🧐. A bit of play on back actor slew (maybe a couple of inches). A small weep from one front clamshell ram on loader. Side shift doesn’t work but seems to pump well hydraulically. Brakes a touch spongey but she started well from cold and not overly smokey. Comes with 3 buckets
Any thoughts?

50hx is going back a few models .
Not valued like a JCB 3cx and sounds like it's done alot
more work than the clock read .
Offer him no more than 8k as you might need the £1500 in reserve.

Thanks, yeah on the long drive home 8k was kind of where my thinking was. In sub 10k category can I expect anything fully functional and tidy? I am also a bit hindered by being in the highlands where good used machinery is scarce 😐

Yeah you will get something tidy enough ,consider buying down south.
Watson machinery backload items and are sensible and professional,
what exactly do you require and I will keep a look out?

£9.5K seems a lot for a J Reg 50HX.

Really must get our K Reg 60HX going if that’s what they are worth. Think it needs a new torque converter and wasn’t sure whether it was worth fixing but if that’s what they are worth probably should.

Would be surprised if clock is working. 2700 hours is nothing for a 27 year old digger. If that’s correct might just be worth the asking price, if it’s not working then definitely not.

I wouldn’t be scared of a MF digger, but if i as buying id look for a black or grey cab JCB. Plenty to choose from and good spares availability be it new or second hand. They were also pretty bullet proof. Should get a good one sub £9k

Sorry I was wrong, clock reads 3400, dunno why I had 2700 in my head! Although not much of a difference I suppose
