Using and disposing of chlorothalonil ahead of its withdrawal in May 2020

I would hazard a guess the sum total of CTL that will be disposed of is zero.
Would depend if “disposed of” involves putting into a large tank mixing it with water and dispersing it evenly through a number of fine jets while travelling back and forth across a number of fields?

Sounds like a suitable method of disposal to me?

It seems crazy to me that they set these "use up dates" like this. If they just stopped the sale of it it would filter through in the end anyway. Rules like this just make life difficult for all - those who planned in advance last year and haven't planted any winter wheat could find themselves stuck now.

If it was OK to spray it on land on 18th May, it seems mad that 22nd May is then considered not OK. Rules are rules......yet they could be so much more user friendly, realistic and practical. I'd suggest your disposal method to be much more environmentally suitable (given we will already be doing it up to the date of the ban) than incinerating a load of oil based product because 24 hours has passed.

I understand they can detect the use of ctl in the grain
From a T0 application, or T3?
Until 20 May 2020 most crops will have had CTL at least twice.

This year I will be applying it at higher than the normal half rate to make sure I have none left. Probably do a T1.5 with straight CTL so as not to get caught out if T2 a bit late. Whoever thought of May 20th cut off date was either ignorant or deliberately being difficult.

Most doses are 1 litre/ha of 500 g/l product. You can use twice that, so if you have stocks for all you planned wheat area and only drilled half you'll still be ok. Depending on the label you can use it in spring barley too as it's good for ramularia though the T2 timing will be after 20th May.

Pretty sure T2 will be early this year.

It certainly will! I'm now looking at a T1.5 on leaf 2 for my CTL stocks to make sure it's out of the shed before 20th May.
T 1.5 is a very effective spray for septoria ensuring leaf 2 is protected
all my wheat got one in 2012 ( because of yellow rust susceptible variety) we had very little deduction for specific weight compared to many who did not have the sprayer capacity to get round their wheat
