Vaderstad Rapid seeding disc replacement

Location

Think my discs are about there for replacing, measure approx. 360ish mm. diameter as an average across the drill width. Am I right in thinking I should get two sets of discs to one set of seeding coulters ?
Whats the best method to change the discs on a RDA 400 ?

When I put new discs on I had to fit new boots as well. i couldn't get the old boot to sit flat against the new disc. Discs had worn like the first picture.
Did you build up/replace the back of your boots? I've been through 2 sets of boots to one set of discs.

I did our 6m with a 90 degree air gun and backed over the pit in workshop, half a days work. If you cant do that i have previously lifted the drawbar up with the loader tipping the drill on its back putting 2 long axle stands under the front and 2 shorter ones under the mid section leaving the drawbar attatched to the loader carriage. Usually get 2 sets of discs to coulters and id definitely get genuine discs.

Lift it to full height then put axle stands under the chassis. Pull the ram fully in, put sleepers under the wheels and repeat. Make sure it is secure and safe before working underneath if you don't have an inspection pit.

Tow mine on the 2 point hitch, so raised that up and drove up onto timber railroad sleepers. The sleepers need to support as many wheels as possible! Axle stands and blocks under stand for safety. Went to work with hand tools as that’s all that would fit. Vaderstad make 2 tools for bearing replacement if you need to. Would recommend genuine discs. I’m impressed by the V55 longevity

Thanks for reply’s, I will be fitting genuine discs only - as read some horror stories about non genuine & genuine discs are less than £20.
We have a 90 degree air gun to use.
We we’re thinking of backing the rear tyre packer onto a low loader & raising it that why & propping drill chassis with axle stands.
Although we have a spare draw bar for drill, it has a centre packer fitted, so lifting front up in air might not be so easy ?

We lift ours up at the front with the manitou, then put a prop we built underneath the drawbar leaving the loader attached, plenty other blocks and stuff to stop it moving, we've got a stubby impact gun which is perfect for it, Spalding's sell one similar but if you look around you can get one cheaper than Spalding's ! I'll try to get a picture later of it !

Ask Cambridge Farm Machinery for prices, wherever you are in the country.
When you do the disc bolts up, be very careful to do them up evenly and carefully. Even doing the first one hand tight can result in some disc wobble.
Definately get the proper tools if you are changing bearings. They make it an easy job.

one of these impact guns for doing disc on rapid! Fit with lots of space and plenty of power to get the bolts undone and tightened back up!

personally would always use new bolts when putting discs on, I have had situations where the corners have worn off reused bolts and then they are impossible to get off!

That’s the way I did mine this year I reversed up my low loader ramps a bit gave me plenty height. Had too remove rear Harrow first

You guys do bearings at the same time? We have an older rd300c with the bearings that you grease but our newer rda400 has the non greasing type and we're about to do the first set of discs and Coulter's on it so would like to get a few opinions as to how long the bearings actually last

It has around 2400 hectares on it from memory and the bearings feel great but it would be a shame if they start wobbling in 500 or 1000 hectares if you know what I mean 😬

The old drill has a few wobblers and I think that's on it's 2nd set of bearings and 3rd set of discs/Coulter's.

I used to replace any bearings with any kind of play in them and checked them all before each campaign or if I had to adjust the coulter position as the discs wore down.

Yea sounds like a good idea. I'm thinking I'll just check for any play as bearings are almost the same price as discs and Coulter's put together.

I seen a drill for sale that had the discs and Coulter's replaced but not the bearings and that had done around 4000 hectares. Had double Coulter's which I'd never seen before too, looked like the bio drill on the back was plumbed into them.
