Walterp's Posts

I'm still fairly new here and seem to find myself being drawn into walterp's threads. I then seem to get upset, post something inflammatory and have an awful lot of notifications when I next login.

I might have to wean myself off his posts, because I'm enjoying my time on this forum and don't want to pi$$ off half the membership.
Its a forum not a marrige:eek:, say what you think and to hell with anyone who dares to dissagree.

I sort of agree with you both, a happy medium has to be struck, at the end of the day it is a life style but we are independent selfemployed business men.
Good post (y)

AND the employee - what works for whom?
Who works, for what!?

It is as important to be R&D team, the COO, and the analyst - and not trying to plough a furrow at the same time.

Sometimes farms are better with less farmer.

We are lucky and I know that but when we have to put up with various sections of society tell us how bad we are, how we are murderers of animals and rapists of the environment while still eating the food we produce it does get a bit trying at times. Let them go hungry and then see what their opinion of agriculture is.

Just turn this around and use it to help you feel better than them as you are in an industry that actually keeps people alive!

Industry as a generalisation - kills, pollutes, extracts everything it can from the planet with the simple goal of getting rich, but then shadows the damage by using very good marketing and advertising systems.
Farming is simply another sector that gets some of the crap pointed towards it - and yes, there are some farming practices that are questionable, but what isn't in this day and age.

For me - it all comes down to the net impact we make on the planet we need to look after. We do not need to be tree hugging, hairy arsed muggles to give a sh!t, but we should look deeper into our actions before simply buying all the marketing crap that something is good, as often - the marketeers are extremely good at polishing a turd!!

According to the Jeremy Vine show yesterday, 34% of people think that their jobs are pointless and make not a jot of difference to the world, so we are lucky in that respect.
I think mine is pointless, it keeps me in a living but if i didnt produce anything at all it wouldnt make a jot of difference to anything or anyone , so their for its pointless really ?

Walters posts, oh yes they were such a miss for a while. :)

So many of them aren't really anything other than a vent, in the form of insulting and talking down to farmers, who he despises and portrays as being beneath him.
This is fuelled by the fact that some of his immediate family members (including dad) who he had some kind of falling out with, were indeed farmers. I did read that there there was even talk of some kind of murder plot in the middle of the whole family malfunction.

So the talking down to and the belittling of farmers is simply a way of twisting his dagger.
Which is somewhat ironic as his wife/partner and son are, or at least were farming people.

One could feel sympathy due to the apparent on going effects of past psychological trauma, but the stinking attitude and chronic bitterness make it pretty much impossible.

Walter should ponder that we’re all a product of genetics.

I have this theory -

You will never see Walter P, Clive, Hollywell Farmer and BossFarmer in the same room together.

TSS
The theory has gravity, but maybe not with all of the individuals suggested.

Chat Forums are often a victim of their own success, in that, the more topics that are discussed the less need there is for discussion. So prolific OPs are required for injections of chat to keep the momentum up.

I don't doubt that some members are generated. However, reality is often stranger than fiction, so the strange and weird chracters are most likely real.

I always find something in his posts to reflect upon, even if I don't agree with his points or his conclusions.

For those that complain, the easier avenue would be to move slightly down the bar and initiate their own conversation.

TFF certainly would have less colour without him

I don't disagree with your sentiment.
I am curious about your protocol.

Given that there are already seven stickies on the page, how quickly do you decide if a topic is of an agricultural matter?

I ask as I'm sure you are aware page views tend to fall off a cliff from page 2 and beyond.

Given this do you not have a duty to ask if what can be autobiographical or non agricultural matters threads be placed elsewhere.
So that other posters threads can receive attention.

Also may i ask why when I typed a shorthand version of agricultural matters it came up as a banned word.

Thanks for the feedback. Something that should be considered

It's a fair comment. Basically there is no hard and fast rule. Off Topic and Community Feedback don't feature on New Topic refresh either

I agree that there are a good few stickies that fill the page too. @Chris F maybe a new allied topic category?

In a former life as a milkman delivering home produced milk, I used to chat to a Greek builder, who was friendly but rather offputting as he would come out with whatever crossed his mind. One day he said "I've been wondering about you, you are always working on the farm and doing your rounds, but you don't have anyone to have fun with at night, you have no family and you never take a holiday. Why do you bother going on living?"
I muttered about doing a valuable job producing meat and milk and farming being its own reward, but in reality I think it comes down to becoming institutionalised and because the seasons run into each other seamlessly, you can carry on year in, year out, without noticing how time is passing.

And pass it dose, at an alarming rate unfortunately.

I don't see him talking down to farmers. Rather he has a view of farming by someone who comes into it from outside. I see this difference in outlook from most who come from other professions.
