draegar  used them at moerton, confused the hell outta me, we've got interspiro (y)
Yes they're taking some getting used to for us after being on pretty basic Scott sets for 10 years. Actually putting one on for a job is quick and easy. It's the testing procedure that is time consuming and confusing. Be second nature soon enough I'm sure.

Which draeger sets are you using? We moved on to ps7000 with digital gauge etc. There was a lot of head scratching & a few curses the first month or so of testing! Now though all the crew agree it's very straight forward actually.

Bloody hell you guys get all the best toys :(
We are still on the Dräger Panorama masks !!! but it's the system I have used for years and it works (y)
Any chance of some pictures of other types of PA sets used in the UK ?
The only other system I have used here is the MSA over pressure system !!! not a big fan as you tend to use to much air, restricting your operation time ......

Here is the state I get in after 35 mins :nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting::nailbiting:

sh!t.jpg

That was one of my yearly exercises to make sure I am fit enough to carry a PA :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::whistle:(y)

Here you go Max. I've nicked the board and gauge pictures from the service twitter feed. The group shot is my station on our initial familiarisation training. The sets have telemetry so the gauge readings are also displayed on the board outside. We are on 300 Bar cylinders.

We didn't get the telemetry!

I also forgot to mention the speech amplifier/radio comms microphone in every mask:cool:. Although we're only getting one compatible radio issued to start with as they're in the process of procuring new handheld radios across the board. The whole service is going live with the new sets 19:00 tonight. We've changed our drill night to swap everything over.

Hope you are having a good Christmas
We are spending this year over in blighty with friends and family.
The week before Christmas I had my station officers course! !!
Absolutely nothing to do with fire fighting just law's rules and regulations. About as exciting as watching paint dry.
Exam was Friday morning
I couldn't believe it when I passed. ...

That was probably the worst course I will have to take
Back to tactical things in 2018
Hope you lads have a peaceful and prosperous 2018 and please all come home safe and healthy.

Well done Mate. Very best wishes for 2018 to you and your family.

I'm thinking of taking the ADC (Assessment and Development Centre) tests in the new year. Not compulsory for retained staff, but a pass in that would enable me to move sideways into Wholetime at Crew or Watch Manager's rank.

There's a lot of changes afoot in our service after a comprehensive review, and surprisingly talk of quite a bit of investment in our area. A new hot fire training facility is coming to Newtown and rumours they are considering bringing back a wholetime day crew to the station, but in a role that's half operational, half training. May all come to nothing of course, but it's too late to start thinking of doing the exams when jobs have been advertised.

Thanks Dave
Don't think mate get it done
Whole different world in management but also very rewarding when it all goes right.
I was appointed assistant station officer in march and had 2 year's to get my qualifications, that's all behind me now thank god now on to being a better fireman and a full time pen pusher :(
On of the main reasons for moving up was at 52 I have to realise that climbing 14 m ladders and running into burning building's won't be for ever and I have to use my experience and knowledge to help the younger guys who will eventually replace me .
You guys stay safe and have a relaxing festive season

Have just been on station at Balclutha and thought I'd show how the other half live... the Main appliance and rescue tender are both Iveco's, quite impressed with the locker room compared to our old International - we have about as much gear jammed onto one truck!!

..also, a rural fire tanker, boat, and a smoke chaser for Op support.

Oh, Max, we are still on the PS5000 Draeger sets down here, with the good voice enhancing masks but the normal analog contents guages.
Now on the nice 300bar cylinders but use the 200bar alloy (flat base) and steel cylinders for training purposes, they are being phased out now though.
Have just come back from training in Dunedin (and Christchurch for a day) and went through about 10 old steel ones
:hungover::dead:
MVA / Rescue Tender training coming up in May, Drivers and Pump Op before then, and then hopefully off to Rotorua for my QFF before too long.

Hope you had a quiet start to the year :)
