3rd major roof fire this winter last night.
Heat transfer from from woodburner flue. Again
Timber framed construction with lots of voids allowing rapid fire spread. Again
Supposedly fire retardant paper insulation which isn't. Again
There's a pattern developing here.

Occupants tried to fight it for half an hour before calling us. But it came in as a chimney fire so only 1 pump (us) initial attendance.:banghead: I made up on arrival but next nearest pump was 15 minutes away.
Ended up with 5 pumps and an ALP there.
Been to a few close calls with improperly installed flues from stoves, one being a minute or two from being through the roof. The sarking boards as we call them we're actually tight against the flue!

@jamesy

Just been reading in Private Eye about some of the hoolies from the newly centralised Dundee fire control away from Inverness. Is it hype or did one planned turn out request really involve two ferry crossings?

I believe the stations in question did get the various turnouts but either control noticed & rectified or was obviously noticed on reading turnout sheet. I'm not sure how these things happen as the all singing gazetteer that they use is supposed to show the closest stations by the road.

It is a shame Inverness closed as well as the other control rooms, inevitable but a shame. Though we have had mistakes in the past with there being two areas in Orkney & one in Shetland that share the same name!

Everyone is trying there best to make SFRS work.

MP6 plus ALP in Welshpool last night. I missed to catch the pump this time so not sure of details.

Major domestic property fires have become a rarity in recent years, but this winter for some reason we've been getting one every other week. I foresee a big Home Fire Safety push coming.

Interesting isn't it. If I happened to spot that roof alight and called in as a civilian here I'd have certainly suggested MP4 (to get the enhanced resources and comms) and make up for the MultiStar. What's your PDA for this?

I'm not sure of details as wasn't on the call and haven't talked to any of our lot today. House fire is generally 2 pump PDA but Control will generally make up to 3 for water if rural. Shropshire FRS ALP again and their policy is to send a support pump if cross border. Our 2 pump stations have a small appliance as second so one of those is counted in the total too.

Pretty sure Suffolk standard PDA is MP2 , MP3 if persons reported mainly for BA control board.

Here's why you should check the floor bearing capacity and condition under the rubber matting in your old horsebox from time to time

Just seen this on Twitter. Mid & West Wales' current preferred spec and make of appliance. First one in Powys, just undergoing familiarisation training prior to being issued to Presteigne. Cordless battery powered cutting gear, touch screen control pump and most importantly of all, a water heater so they can have a brew! Lucky beggars.

Spent last night with Presteigne at a house fire, didn't see the engine though, they were lugging water and I was on incident command all night

Never seen a fire like that started in one place and kept flaring up all over the roof , wall spaces and even under the floors !!
Official report is not out but prime suspect is a faulty wood burner flue pipe !!!

Went in on the first knock down only to be kitted up again and spent what seemed like hours up a ladder stripping the roof chasing hot spots !! and then once again back in chasing hot spots in the walls ,and cealing spaces using infared camera and hose .

Must admit that was the first time I have been sent in after the primary knock down and found it difficult to witness the destruction left .

3 pumps including ours arieal ladder and 3 mobile pumps , total of over 50 firemen and seven and a half hours of sweat !!

Not fire service but another blue light service film.

I came across this film and I think it's a superb example not only of an induction video by the Ambulance Trust themselves but also clearly showing the involvement of front line staff in real tangible improvements to their own front line ambulance design
