Dave over here we have 2 uniforms for that reason
Thick uniform for fighting fires and a lighter version for everything else .
We have the bloody awful Hero's 3 helmets now they are like a bloody bin on your head the old German Kasko Helmets were much better . lighter and more comfortable .
Still most of the time you are glad to have anything on your head unless you want a smoke !!!!!!!!!
That is a bloody big no no over hear getting caught smoking under a helmet !
It costs you big time in beer .

Brilliant !!!! If Congleton won't have him send him over here ,he won't make much money as a fireman but I can find him lots of other toys to play with to make a living .

He is 15 tomorrow Cheshire aren't taking any full time firemen(person) for 4 yrs so hopefully time yet.
I don't know about Cheshire, but with us nowadays all new recruits to the Retained complete an NVQ over 2 years which qualifies them to apply directly for Wholetime vacancies on completion. We aren't recruiting either, but as they attempt to cut costs vacancies are not being filled and are instead being offered to the retained on short term contracts. So it may well be worth his while qualifying in something else, joining the local Retained at 18 if home/work fits and getting in that way. Joining the Wholetime direct requires a lot of dedication and to be honest willingness to go anywhere a vacancy opens in the UK.

Great pictures folk!

To the OP your appliance is immaculate! The locker stowage looks far better thought/laid out than many over here!

I had a visit of a chap who is in the wholetime a couple of weeks ago. He remarked how, in general, retained/volunteer stations take more pride in the appearance of their machines/equipment. Commenting for many in wholetime it's just a job.

Highlands & Islands upgraded all their volunteer stations to retained around 2005. Something to do with funding, ie they got funding for half a wholetime fire fighter for every retained one. So there are 90 odd retained stations in the old highlands & islands area. (Single service in Scotland now)

Some ladder work last night

Take that was a chimney fire ?
At least you didn't have to climb it with an AG set on .

Is that a 3 stage extending ladder? what heights can reach with one ?

It's a tough tough job. In theory when you are jammed you should turn the siren off but position yourself to be seen and ready to move as soon as the traffic clears.

Bull horns at junctions are one of the best inventions IMO

Ahhh OK
We carry a 3 stage extendable lader 14 m although we are only supposed to use 12 m max for rescue out of the 3rd floor .
We also carry a 4 piece ladder 8.4 m which will give you a maximum recue height of 7 m 2nd floor .

The 4 piece ladder breaks down into 4 seperate sections and is half the weight of the 3 piece , it can be used for various tasks even building an emergency container to hold water ,etc with the help of a tarp .

See friday night and we have no training !!! big yearly meeting tommorrow , basically a revue of 2014 what we did right what we did wrong, awards etc , Normally a good evening , parade uniform and all .
