waste oil heater for work shop recommendations please

can anyone point me in the right direction. have loads of waste oil so could be a good system however could also put lots of halogen heaters around the walls

Salamanders were the ones to have when I started back in 1978.farm I worked on had one in workshop that glowed red all day.was handy for toasting sandwiches but I reckon they must be banned these days

Definately won’t get one past health and safety now and with good reason boss had one , nasal cavity was black with soot every night , the amount you could deposit in a hanky just by blowing your nose it simply can’t be good for you .

These are much cleaner burning than a waste oil heater and far easier to maintain

I can remember holding my overalls up in front of the old aunt sally heater in the workshop the warm them up (and get rid of the damp!), that was at Potters of Thame (housing estate now, used to be International dealers)

Yes, they can afford the cost of the licences, as they're using probably hundreds of thousands of litres of fuel, so the savings over kerosene add up. Thats why I said effectively banned. You can still do it to warm your garage or workshop if you want, but the cost would be stupendous. Over £5k in licencing costs to start with, plus the cost of a compliant burner, and then an ongoing annual fee of £1400.

If you were a large car repair garage and could manage to heat your offices as well it might add up, but for the bloke in a workshop its not going to make financial sense.

Used in a domestic situation such as heating a farmhouse theres no requirement for a licence so perfectly legal to use but put the same machine in the workshop next door it requires a licence.when the new licences came out defra had no emmisions data, or testing done somebody in whitehall was persuaded that waste oil heaters didnt sound too good. They dont know if they are any better or worse than a heater running on purchased fuel.
