Looking for thoughts on a new jacket. Don’t want a smock as I wear kiwiikit bib and brace. What’s best/best value?
Beta craft, kiwi kit, ridge line, Stoney Creek ect
like the look of the Stoney creek tempest jacket at the moment. Just need to convince myself that it’s worth the£

I find Guy Cotten quite good. They’re mid range in price but I find them far better than brands that are maybe just slightly cheaper.
My guy Cotten nylpeche Jacket is incredible, wouldn’t wear it everyday, tend to wear cheap delamares if just showers or fencing but if it’s raining properly then the guy cottens come out.

I really rate my Kaiwaka stormforce kit. I don't have their winter jacket, just a couple of parkas and pants, and they last for yonks.
None of them are really detergent-friendly, but I appreciate the 'coat inside a coat' dual layer rain gear as opposed to one thicker waterproof layer, adds a lot to the life of them.
Wear my kaiwaka bib and brace everyday and love them but the storm force winter jacket is the dearest of all that I have looked at. I know it will last a long time so maybe just need to get my head round it. Sick fed up of coming in from the stock on a winter day soaked and freezing cold

I was just about to ask a similar question about winter kit :). Can I extend this to waterproof leggings too? I'm currently in a cycle of buying cheap and renewing frequently. I can't bring myself to break the bank on something because a piece of barbed wire or a bent nail will ruin it no matter what the quality.

Look up fane valley @Bob the beef . They are a bit cheaper for the kaiwaka kit. I got the storm force jacket from them last Xmas time. First day I wore it, I justified the cost. No more damp elbows, and shoulders. Good sized hood, and to be properly dry after you’ve been out when it hoofing down, is a rare treat !
Stoney creek, Swazi etc are a good bit more expensive!

Wouldn’t go past kaiwaka bib and brace or trousers. Warm and dry and very wearable even in the middle of summer

Fane valley had an offer a month ago which has run out and now their prices are as high as everyone else ☹️

Haven’t come across guy Cotten. Best place to buy that stuff?

Ordered a few things from these. Leggings are incredible but I wouldn’t climb barb with them.

Betacraft I'm certain they are identical to kawiawa stuff for half the price,
I've a betacraft bib and brace, I wore it 3 days running last week, long wet grass but dry overhead and mild, and stil no moisture of rain or sweat after 8 hrs,
And among wet soapy sheep again no moisture

I went to a local merchant that sells Kaiwaka and Betacraft last winter, with the intention of buying a StormForce coat to go with my (superb) Bib n Brace. There was another sheep farmer there doing exactly the same with leggings, and we ended up like a couple of women chattering whilst clothes shopping.😂

After trying on both, I couldn’t see £50 difference between the Betacraft and the Kaiwaka coats, so went with the cheaper one. Both are the same/similar ‘rip stop’ material so won’t tear in a thorn bush or on a fence.

I usually just wear my vest under it and pretend I spent the big bucks 😆 coz I am very, very tight.
Your stockists certainly seem to love to ream you guys, if it helps you make the decision my "old" coat is now 16 years old and my "new" one is 10. I still have one in its plastic bag unworn - so you can depreciate them over a decade, cheap when you look at it as an investment in comfort

Couple of these do me. This old type with the wire in the hood is best. They last me about 5 years before they stop being fully waterproof

On a cheaper note, my last winter coat came from Mountain Warehouse. Thigh length, with a zip that comes up from the bottom that's very handy when you're jumping on and off the tractor putting bales out. Going back there at the weekend for a replacement, as it's getting a bit cool for the flexothane over a thin fleece.

Yeah, but you guys don’t get winters. No wonder they have to send their coats over here to sell them...
