5ml of pen seems a lot? though maybe down to brand?
With penstrep I use 1ml under the skin on any effected don't get big issues hear so not a need to do all,
Was discussed on hear back along can't remember the thread but most recommended spectam.
I spoke to my vet about it and he recommended penstrep at the time, as it was cheaper and in his op more effective, like said by others on hear before you find what works best and generally stick with it,

Colostrom asap, followed by spectam and navel spray (iodine) and if they still get it then 1ml of penicillin intra muscular. Used to give everything an antibiotic pill, but stopped that years ago now as it didn't seem right doing it to everything.

Oh the singles don't get spectam unless they get a problem, but the twins do once we've had a few cases which is normally into the second week of lambing.

5ml of penicillin is enough for a ewe, seems a huge dose for a lamb.

I think a pump of spectam is the only one to go with if it is likely to be an issue. I notice veleron is energy and probiotics to help prevent watery mouth so not really in the same league.

Anyone know how long after the bottle is opened it stays good for? Got half a bottle from last year still inside its best before date but was opened 11 months ago.....

After its last dose I removed the dose gun and resealed the bottle and kept it cool.

Never let it worry me that it was last years bottle, I just use it until it's gone.

Yep used spectam scour halt for years and as long as it's done as soon as possible after lambing it's very good. We lamb outside and I always give every lamb a squirt, if I miss one they usualy get watery mouth. We don't inject the ewes anymore either so this is all I use.
