On the radio they were talking about how good is the above. As a product for use on the farm for light lubrication and a nut /bolt release rusty release type product is it really any use? Does anyone use diesel in a refillable spray can as an alternative or what do you use ? Thanks

WD40 (or, water displacement 40), if I remember right it was designed to stop ballistic missiles from going rusty and getting moisture in the electrics.
Personally I’ve not found anything that works as well for freeing stuff off. It usually works best if you leave it to soak in overnight. I buy it in 5L tubs and you get a squirty bottle in the pack, find it lasts much longer than the cans.

Mate uses wd in a squirty not aresol may well free off grand but i find no use as a long term , as if it evaporates?
Or at least loads of things he free off today and squirts up ,come back in 6 months seized solid again
Oil ,grease it wouldn't have seized
Not to say it aint a good release agent tho.

WD is mainly just paraffin with a fatty acid ester in it (allegedly...), so as said no good for long term lubrication.
If you add say 1/8 or max 1/4 of any new oil (engine, gear oil, whatever), then it does leave a film. And smells nice too 😁
Two dispensers, one neat (for freeing off) and one for after you've had a shave...😳, sorry lubricating/anti rusting.
As mentioned above, 5litre bottle with free dispenser is cheapest, and their dispensers don't last forever. However the pump-up Wurth dispensers... 👍

Wurth rostoff is the best penetrant / release I have found. Todays WD40 isn't as potent as it used to be. 25 years ago I bought ten 5 litre jars of WD40 at an auction and am still using out of them yet and there is no comparison between the stuff in it and the WD40 you buy today. As a long time lubricant I wouldn't rate WD40 as that's not what its for really it is a water displacer after all, after you get the thing freed and moving a shot of spray grease would be better or silicone spray for plastics.

Trouble is most think the likes of WD40 is Paul Daniels in a can, couple of squirts and as they set the can down they are looking for the spanner to take said nut off,
It takes time to get in,
The longer the better.... Got a pully under a gearbox off a topper, that is 3 days into a daily spray. Should be ready by the weekend as I cannot use gas... :(
