as long as you like that sort of thing and take a bit of care.....but yeah can do it, best replace the whole length thats cut and keep it the same length as before.
must do a good sound job though no loose connections seal moisture out etc.

use shrink sleave over the ends if required at the plug/socket to nicely strengthen and keep water out

can get bits

struggling to find cable atm

See if @Allied Weighing can recable it? At least it will be sealed properly again then, rather than moisture potentially creeping into a bodged fix in a few months’ time and causing sporadic problems.
Kill joy :D you sound like my Dad used too...

I've mended that box of mine, put a new on off switch in instead of the ' bubble wrap ' type crappy original :rolleyes:switch. Which was already replaced once on ' warranty
Looks quite ' professional :sneaky: even if I do say it myself....and a now working weighhead......

The tru test bars need a resistor in them, don't think it does much more than tell the weigh head box what kind of load bars they are.
It's along while since I have seen our cables in bits, I think it's in the plug, but it will be buried in resin.
Our old weigh cells were recabled with computer data cable. Will have a look tomorrow.
I couldn't source the fancy blue stuff, it's just for protection tho

If its clean even cut or break without any stretch I would be tempted to slide a heat shrink sleeve over , solder the wires together nicely and

Or use a joiner with glands of the same type shown in that RS link .....or a junction box ..even ..

With Plenty of weather protection might be ok , one would know for next time that s how i look at it....

Solder, heat shrink, then wrap with self amalgamating tape! Bit of water pipe or similiar for bit of external protection if needed.

Considering moving on to this type of weigher , how do you stop rats chewing these cables or doesn't it happen ?

no ime, they should be shielded / (metal) braided covering on them they are better than the likes of feeder/mixer wagons in the respect of the rodent problem ...(y)

Remember that a nicely soldered joint (if possible in the situation) is better than a crimped join.

I’ve had the pleasure of experiencing the garbage thrown up when damp gets into a (Trutest) cable.:banghead: When I want to weigh lambs, I want to get on with it now, not pee about trying to work out why the weights are all over the place, then spend time trying to sort it out.

I’m all for a bit of bodging, but sometimes the job has to work, reliably.

could trutest's 'problems ' if they have any .... be the mass production of them ? made in china etc ?

Allied Weighing certainly do good workmanship, sealed well ...metal braiding... and all... (y)

I think Trutest’s biggest problem is the amount they charge for products that are no better than can be bought from plenty of other places.

I was recently told that the weigh cells they use in their weighbars are just imported units that cost just over £20 each (2 in each loadbar, so 4 in a pair of £1000 loadbars!).
