What’s this bug?

Aye up,

I’ve seen them before but don’t know what they are. Strange today as there are a whole bunch of them in one field, almost like a little flock. None in the field I walked before, none in the field after.

Thank your lucky starts it's grasshoppers, my cousin in the States and has those 17 year cicadas in his garden (luckily they don't do much damage), they are EVERYWHERE and very loud!
Nothing lucky about having grasshoppers. We’ve sprayed 1100 acres so far and hope the rest can stay below the threshold for spraying. Have sprayed every acre for the last three years and can confidently say I’ve used 50thousand dollars trying to protect the crops. My neighbour lost half his rye crop to them. Even once the stems were drying out they wouldn’t quit and chewed the heads off. Terrible seeing half the heads led on the ground. I show them no mercy.
