Plenty go down to Thatchers from Hfd but you can't get a contract with them now. Many orchards round here being grubbed up . I can't do that as the orchard is on one of the rented farms. I've offered them to smaller producers and they are inundated with offers of apples !

I only have about 4 acres if orchards do not a big volume but a local cider maker is really expanding at the moment. They’ve planted 100’s of acres of trees and take a lot in from small old orchards

Thatchers ? I've tried them as have many others around here but they don't want them . Magners took them last year but don't want this year !

Job got overdone, they should of limited the new acres going in. I heard contracts were being bought out at 3yrs the usual apple crop.

Yes Bulmers....as they were then ... made a fortune selling Apple trees to replenish orchards then turned round and cut the contracts .

Surely, if you offer someone to come and pick FOC or for small fee (insurance etc sorted) amazing all these people who reckon they cant afford to feed the family but wont bother to collect food.

There must be hundreds of acres like this in Somerset which are not harvested now, just cattle/sheep in and under them to keep the grass down. Big shame as they look absolutely stunning when in full flower.

I do a bit but everyone is at it around here ( pressing cider I mean !!) so the chances of selling it is pretty slim.

Kind of shows up the idea that the Uk is full of starving people who can only be fed by foodbanks really........one doubts there were many unpicked apple trees 80 years ago...............
