Why are most trailer shoes not solidly fixed ? That tiny bit of movement they allow normally results in the hitch sinking on soft grass and my new tractor pickup hitch doesn’t touch the floor [emoji35][emoji35] so if it sinks a few inch it won’t pick it up
Poor design and trailer manufacturers don’t seem interested in improving them.
I made our own for silage trailers which were stream lined at the front so as to glide over swaths without dragging and were no wider than the drawbar itself but sufficiently long to prevent any significant sinkage - the front end was still fastened by the regular pin and the rear by a tongue welded under the drawbar.
We were using trailed forage harvesters towing the trailers behind which involved 25 second changeovers.
