what has the NFU ever done for us?

For the record no one has ever been moderated on TFF for having an opinion (NFU or any other subject) that myself or anyone else involved in running the site doesn’t agree with.

Several people have been moderated over the years when other members have complained about behaviour, site rules have been broken or warnings re use of the site have been ignored etc yourself included
If anyone would like to know the details best pm me as I'll get another ban if you discuss it in open forum. Never had that done to me in any NFU meeting!

What have the NFU done for us ?

Well I guess we do have Red tractor to thank them for
Clive, I'm going to chuck my hat in here. I've heard a lot about Red Tractor & know that it's a mark of farm food quality assurance. There's even a big banner hanging from a main road over-bridge not so far away from here.
The fact is I've Never noticed it on any meat products we buy, not that we buy that much & when we do it is from local Suffolk producers. Supermarket sourced.

Is this me? I pride myself in trying to keep up with modern & alternative food production but if I don't notice/see/find this logo, what chance has the ordinary public?
I'm not being picky this is simply an observation & really should be corrected!
Now there's a task for someone:D

If you don't belong to an organisation that is a membership organisation what gives you a right to determine how it conducts its business?
you have the right to an opinion on the organisation if it affects your business

does the NFU do anything to affect government AG policy ?

Hmm...

1) By persuading those who are non-members to become members.

2) Tom's candour is welcome for the honest insight it gives. No 'nodding' through? Come off it...

3) In fact I wrote: I shan't insult them by stating that they aren't bright enough to know it.

I am bright enough and polite enough to read what others write before commenting upon it... :)

Why do you underline parts of your posts ? do you assume we're illiterate .--------

They are also welcome to pm me where I can explain about the number of complaints received and moderators hours wasted about you and Guth’s childish spats and the number of warnings you ignored

If I wanted to moderate NFU threads this one wouldn’t exist would it and guy smith would be in constant pre mod wouldn’t he ! - we do not moderate opinion on TFF. Never have and never will. We simply apply site rules re behaviour and conduct

I expect a retort claiming something different to the facts above the mods have nicknamed you “last word sid” so rather than spend the rest of my life replying to you let’s leave it at that

The NFU most certainly does do a huge amount to affect government AG policy.
The papers the NFU produced on the effects of Brexit were read avidly by government ministers and civil servants and were referred to in speeches.
There was initially a drive to remove all subsidies and when the NFU spelt out the effects of this it was quickly moderated by government.

I had a senior Cabinet Minister on my farm yesterday, at which the information supplied by the NFU was seized upon as being of great use to them. It was also possible to find out important details of last weeks discussions at Chequers and how the potential effects will be on Agriculture including the thinking on a SAWS scheme.
I doubt very much we would have had a farm visit and a working discussion with a senior minister without the help and information of the NFU of almost an hour and a half.

yep well there you go
so the NFU affects non members farming business so there is nothing wrong with non members voicing an opinion on what the NFU do

I wasn’t in Whitehall to ask anyone to listen to me and certainly wasn’t claiming to represent anyone. I was there invited as a farmer who has some conservation ag experience that they wanted to hear about and owner of a forum that they can see might just be a useful way to communicate with farmers, nothing more, I’m certainly not trying to influence anything.

@Clive I have built up a lot of respect for the way you do business, but the whole idea of you meeting Gove and his Whitehall colleges and NOT trying to influence anything is something I don’t buy! You’re too canny to let an opportunity like that pass!

You clearly COULD have time to work with/for the NFU if you wanted to- but I respect you don’t.

However I’m sure I’m not the only person on this forum who hopes you do get involved with NFU again one day. Your passion, drive and ideas would only help push the NFU and farming industry forward.
