What is the point of voting for Sector Council Appointments?

Surely it is utterly meaningless.
Has there ever been an appointment that was not be ratified?
Is there a minimum number of votes required?
Why bother with the pretence of levy payers choosing their representatives?
Not certain what I think.

If I saw a list of names I'd have no idea who I wanted to vote for, unless there was a video interview or something similar to watch.

With the process of ratifying chosen candidates, it seems unlikely the person won't get in.

Would be interesting to know how many votes they get.

By use of this ratification process, AHDB could be accused of steering their own ship. How would change ever happen? Those in power will only ever choose people who are going to think like themselves. Aren't they??

It's like, when it's time for Kier Starmer to trigger a general election, instead of having a General Election he decides to put forward the next Prime Minister, and you can either ratify that choice or not. Only, in the General Election example there's a fair chance the candidate wouldn't get ratified, whereas with the AHDB I'd have thought it unlikely the proposed person won't get in.

I'm not sure what system should be used by AHDB, but I can see good reason to not do it like it's currently done. I mean I'd like to get a bunch of assurance deniers on the boards at Red Tractor, but if RT are conducting the interviews then they're not going to appoint us.

How is it possible to ever get change from the current trajectory at AHDB if they essentially make the appointments of their own Councils?

How many candidates do they get?
The simplest way to improve the situation is have more candidates than there are positions for.
Even if there is a box to tick saying you agree with AHDB's preferred people you would have the choice to vote against one or vote for particular candidates.
I just find it offensive to suggest that levy payers have in any way chosen the members on the sector councils.

it's a joke of a system - utterly pointless ............ insulting to farmer inteligence even

Any levy payer wanting to sit on a sector council should find a seconder and then stand against others in open and democratic election where levy payers from that sector can vote

I think they worry though that such democracy could results in the "wrong" people getting on councils ................

What happens if no one votes to ratify them?.....

......I guess they just get in anyway 🤷‍♂️

It's a Mickey Mouse system. There's always just enough candidates to fill the vacancies.

It's our AHDB (or so they like to tell us) so we should get to nominate who we want on the boards, not have them pick a bunch of 'yes men'.
Nothing will ever change under the current system and that's how the top men like it - safe and cosy.

Morning @Clive

Umm, 12 months is up. (Early October 23 posted below)

What can I do to help disband it and unleash hell?

Time to go.

No more talk.

Ah it was in response to Carbonfibre Farmer's post above. I think it was the information (s)he wanted
My post was more of a rhetorical post, as I was aware of how to vote to disband and numbers of each sector required.
It's been posted on here and the wider world but needs to be kick started to happen. Hence my screen shot of posts Clive had put up a year ago.

Change....?what change. They don't change.
Weasel words speaking platitudes but in 2 years time what will have changed?
RT will still be here.
AHDB will still be here.
They will be oh so cross with them, but will be "helping them" move forward to a more "customer focused outlook" . It'll be thanks to AHDB "diligence" that this will be taking place.
Plus ça change
