the gamble is on and our success or failure at sowing w cereals is in the hands of "carol "who has just given me the hope that we are going to have a couple of more or less dry days . The plough has been going most of the night , this land needs a little time to nap and will leave us with the easier working lot apart from 10 acre of liver .Weve now got a third of our cereal acerage ploughed in the last 24 hours and have been cultivating since 5 am with a view to drill away by lunch giving it a head start .that we sowed yesterday has gone in well but we have rolled nothing other than a little field as it looks /looked like it would cap if we get a lot of rain before emergence

Mrs teslacoils says she'd prefer a bit of hand weeding to no crop, so we are going a little earlier than planned. Drill due tomorrow or Wednesday, so fingers crossed.

What about winter beans, anyone tempted to drill earlier this year?

how many staff do you have?!
I couldn’t cope as said previously in the north as I would be too far behind....

Me, and Dad is usually available for a couple of days a week. Biggest factor is more land down to grass and stewardship so only 1/3 of our previous arable to do with the same kit. If it doesn't get drilled the grass and stewardship still pay so less pressure now

Bit of a dilemma really, half is disced up ready to go but I am not sure if we get the 75mm they are forecasting in the next 2 weeks if it’s drilled it will stand this then it’s forecast to get better, so do we go or wait

What we've got are dry but ok seedbeds with on land with next to no BG. If I knew we would get an inch then I'd leave it. But we can press, then drill, then roll and get a preem on over the next two days.

Comes down to do I trust the short, medium, or long range UK weather for autumn.

I let this out the gauge this morning! That's stopped everyone locally....

24hrs of rain in there.
How long will it stop people for?
If no more rain, 4days ish.
For @robbie on his land, 2hrs [emoji23]

But we've had more today, and forecast for next week plus, looks pretty crap.

If it'd been 20mm then wouldn't have stopped people so hard but that amount will f##k things up somewhat.
I've counted about 90-100mm in the gauge for the last 7 days, a local sencrop monitor is showing 120mm.

Pulling some ground down and will hopefully start drilling it this PM, I'll give it a few hours to haze out a bit.
