Wheat seed down one inch Dutch Opener

Hi,

Has anyone successfully put high seed rates of wheat down one inch openers without blocking up? I have a CO6 with 3inch openers on which I’ll use for my current min till system but have planned an acreage to experiment on with cover crops and dd with the narrow point. Slightly apprehensive it’ll fall at first hurdle if drilling 450 seeds... any experiences greatly appreciated

thanks

Could you not just drive a bit slower? What would the row width be on 1 inch
It’ll be a 225mm spacing with an inch point. Pan Anglia rep doesn’t know anyone drilling wheat with the one inch and reckons it’ll bung. I know people using the Metcalfe Point at 250mm rows, however I don’t want to have to buy new leg assemblies. I’d have thought it’d distribute it out the back ok, but looking for a confidence booster!

I've drilled 250kgha with my 2.5inch coulters without any blockages even with un dressed seed.I would go a bit slower with higher seed rates ,10-12k which also helps with less soil movement

It'll be fine as you say loads of people use Metcalfe points for cereals you may just have to reduce your speed a bit, but with a narrow point you want a slower forward speed to reduce disturbance and create enough tilth. I have just bought a Horsch Sprinter and have fitted 1 inch dutch openers to it for drilling everything except for grass which I'll take the pipes off and blow it on the top.

I'm going to try a bit this autumn, if it turns wet like last year it'll be more.
I wish I'd done a bit of the spring wheat with it.
I don't see why it would block, it's designed the have seed go through it.

Thanks folks. Will update on how it goes in October! Won’t know about any potential yield penalty for a year but will be interesting to compare to other people’s experiences next harvest

I've drilled 280kg/ha of spring beans down 1 inch Dutch coulters on my 3m DTS with all that seed only divided into 9 coulters so I would think you would be fine with wheat.
