Where to buy cows

That was easy to see yesterday
No stability and confidence
It's such a short time since the bad times were here and their still deeply engrained in memories
There has been so many dairy cattle sold through Carlisle in the last two months !

How does anyone work out what to pay for cows? Have yo got a formula including expected milk price, age of cow, yield etc. or is it just a feeling on the day?
I don't have a formula at all, but if it helps, we paid more than present values 24 years ago when we first went into milk and we had quota to buy.
I think that sums it up, despite what the 'sexy' people say in the magazines and conferences.

At a dispersal sale in Ireland today, average enough herd. Incalf Heifers making €1400. Cows €1600 to €1800. Thought it was more than enough for them.

No idea and it doesn't say on the catalogue either. Which leaves me to suspect not good.
I was just looking at the cattle, some cracking entries from Bilsrow and Stardale.
There is very little tb in Lancashire fortunately.I believe all the vendors are on 4 yearly testing and I have been told there is no tb in Lancs. badgers which makes us folk in Lancashire very lucky indeed.
Ps I sell surplus stock in Gisburn auction or privately so I have no axe to grind as regards the Lancaster sale.

Do you or your fellow vendors from tb4 areas pre movement before you sell ?
That is something we look for now when buying dairy cattle from.clean areas.
