Yes, I know, yet another 4x4 thread...

I don't know what to buy, any ideas folks...? What I would really like is Dad's Daihatsu Fourtrak, but a bit fresher...

Requirements...

1) Needs to be able to tow 3000kg ish without slogging and making hard work of it.
2) Needs to be 4x4, not mud plugging, but capable of travelling across a field.
3) Needs to be have a fairly good load space, where I can keep tools, fuel, stuff, out of sight, under lock and key
4) £5000 or less

I think I need a 4x4 Van, capable of towing 3000kg... but what?!

:)

I looked for ages at the beginning of the year There all getting abit old not many good troopers ect left bought a terrano van but it was going to be a money pit so sold it again ended up with a L200 I just throw everything on the back seats now

cant wait until the new land cruisers vans are abit cheaper on the used market

Isuzu Trooper. Far better vehicle than a Daihatsu and engine issues should have been sorted a decade ago. Unfortunately anything of that vintage being sold is likely to be on its last legs. Check for virtually everything that could go wrong with special emphasis on chassis rot. On Trooper the front of the chassis is more prone to rust than most, unfortunately.

Shogun may be a good bet if only because the current shape have been out for donkey's years and they don't have a separate chassis to rot away. They are monocoque and bodies are generally much better rustproofed than japanned-black chassis which are generally rust magnets.

Why not just buy a ranger with a lockable canopy on the back. Problem solved
I’m over 6ft and I can’t reach the ratchet straps in the front of that without climbing half in
At least with a swb 4x4 van You can fold seat Forward for you to reach stuff and the rear door opens out the way for you to reach stuff in the back

That’s my biggest hate about my double cab ( one of them) , we spend all summer moving grass seeds about and getting the last few bags out of the front of a double cab canopy is a proper pain climbing in and out but until my kids leave or I get a reasonable price offered and sell them, the double cab is the best all round option.
