Which chain harrows…?

Evening all,

I’m thinking of buying a set of hydraulic chain harrows, but I’m unsure what type to go for…

The traditional type, Parmiter style chain mats, the look like a diamond mat with a couple of teeth in each corner

Or

The new style cast ring type, round rings with a central cast ring with three teeth on each

Prices are close enough to not make it a factor.

Id use it for general chain harrowing, pulling out moss and rubbish, spreading muck heaps, levelling poached ground etc etc, the usual stuff…

Suggestions, anyone…? Which should I go for…?

We used to have the traditional chain link harrows on a 14ft frame.. when they wore out we bought some heavy cast mat off Ritchie.. reversible mat long spikes one side short spikes the other side.. all held together with steel rings.. Problem is now they have worn away were the steel ring goes through the spike cast part...
Since bought a 5m Einbock.. Much better

You not got any wear on them were the steel rings hold them together?? The spikes have plenty of life left in them but im worried about them falling apart and loosing one of the spike bits in a silage field!!

No, i would say we have worn the metal frame more than the rings/harrows. We have been known to place weights on the harrows too in very rough ground.

I know that it may not be very helpful but I have had it with chain harrows, they fill with stuff and don't do the job.

Have changed to a straw rake, used it today in fact.
