Which post knocker?

Hello, I’m thinking of buying a post knocker. I only have about 500 meters todo plus a few repairs. So what are peoples thoughts on the two post knockers?

Thanks for reading and comments good and bad would be very much appreciated.

I’ve never understood how the HSE haven’t those lethal David Thomas ones in your top picture.

If you only have 500m to do, could you hire someone in with a tractor & post knocker on an hourly rate? You’d have them done in a couple of hours if you’re even halfway organised. Any neighbours have a decent post knocker that would help for a few notes?

Please do not even entertain the thought of a David Thomas. As above, will be far cheaper for you to get a contractor in

Thanks for the reply's. It would make more sense getting someone in to do it but I have more fencing to do as and when time/money allow so thought it would be easier to have a post knocker of my own so I can do it when it suits me.

Pick up a simple Parmiter type knocker, 2nd hand. They don't eat much corn and it's always useful to have one in the nettles, I agree.

I have sometimes wondered about the little petrol and hysraulic hand knockers, but know nothing about them really... I have a Quantock/Brown post knocker that does all my jobs, bought 20 odd years ago. What is useful is the ability to knock gate posts in! Save some digging!

On wetter land, if fit to travel, I usually push them in with the Kramer....

Buy an old parmiter. You’ll sell it for what you buy it for when you decide to get shot of it. They do an ok job if it’s just for your own use.

Agree 100%. If you have some help, you can go when it suits and spend a morning banging in stakes, then string wire at leisure.

Bought an old king hitter ??? One years ago when we did a lot of grant aided fencing wouldn't like to be without it now although there's times we don't use it for months

I was in a similar situation. Bought a malone one off mark watson. Yes it's overboard but it was my own money, I'd always fancied a knocker, it will last a long time.
Now iv got it (when it dries up) iv got a list of jobs to do that wouldn't have got done if I got a contractor in.
Ditto!
Decent no frills knocker for relatively little money.

Will a David Thomas type knocker hit strainer posts in?
Yes .I always put gate posts in spring , anything up to 10". Wore 3 David Thomas post drivers out over the yrs, as long as the check chains on tractor where tight they worked very well. Moved on now, got a Protect 300s, should have got it yrs ago.
